I am amazed that there weren't more Quisp and Quake commercials up here. Having already posted the 1st Cap'n Crunch commercial, their mighty predecessor, I had to add the 1st Quisp and Quake commercial. I'm feeling lazy, so I will just clip the history from Wiki:
"Quisp and a similarly marketed cereal Quake were originally released in 1965 in the United States by The Quaker Oats Company and generally advertised together (during the same commercial) as products competing against each other. The very successful ads were cartoons created by Jay Ward of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame, and used some of the same voices, including Daws Butler as the voice of Quisp (an alien) and William Conrad as the voice of Quake (a miner).[1]
The commercials often asked children to choose which cereal was better and would compete over taste or premiums. The competition reached its peak in 1972, when a series of commercials asked children to vote for which cereal should remain on the shelves. Quake had a makeover in 1969, changing his miner hat for a cowboy hat, but that was not enough. Quisp was the winner and Quake was immediately discontinued. Quake as a cereal was gone, but the character Quake soon reappeared as a sidekick of an orange kangaroo named Simon in an orange-flavored cereal called Quangaroos. In 1976, Quaker Oats ran another contest, this time asking children to choose between Quisp and Quangaroos. Quisp won again and Quangaroos was discontinued."

I remember these cereals from my childhood, but for years, I thought I'd imagined them. Nobody else seemed to have heard of them. Then came the era of Google...and I learned I was right. Thank you so much for this!

I bought some Quisp at a store a couple of years ago. I was shocked to find it. But it seemed smaller and tasted weak... maybe I was comparing it to Cap'n Crunch.

You can thank Jay Ward, the man behind Bullwinkle J. Moose, for the creations of Cap'n Crunch and Quisp and Quake during the 1960s. After his first success with the premiere of Cap'n Crunch in 1963, he struck gold in 1965 with the debuts of Quisp (a space guy who had a propeller atop his head, voiced admirably by Daws Butler) and Quake (a strongman, voiced by William Conrad, later TV's "Cannon"). In these spots the biggest debate was: whose cereal and which character was better,Quisp or Quake? One more fact: there'd be occasional appearances by Quake's mom, voiced by the late great June Foray.

I remember this feud and I always liked Quisp better, and then Quaker Oats had the kids vote on who would go and who would stay by sending in their box tops, and Quisp won and Quake disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again, and once he was gone, I actually kinda missed and felt sorry for the big guy! LOL Quaker Oats ran an ad showing Quake saying bye bye but I never thought they would actually kill him off.

Well they did it once, they did it twice, and they tried a third time putting him in the shadows of another character… they failed to live up to Quisp. That’s the thing with cereal feuds. If you’re gonna have a duel of two cereals don’t have one cereal taste better than another

1965's Quaker Quisp & Quake cereals commercial tells a story of a plucky, mischievous and overly friendly little pink alien with propeller blades on top of his head named Quisp who dons a green outfit with a Q-shaped belt and a handle for his scrooch gun, lives on Planet Q from outer space as a crown prince with his sidekick and royal advisor Quunchy where he makes a delivery in every alien planet ranging from Saturn to Alpha Centauri and fights off against a group of villains with the help of a package of Quisp cereal that contains crispy and sugary sweet round cereal pieces shaped like golden flying saucers in which they're powered with a vitamin charge which gives him a crazy energy; and his human best friend yet former friendly rival, a kindhearted, mighty, triumph, heroic and cheerful miner-themed superhero with a construction worker's lamp-attached hard hat, a cape, strong arm muscles, a short-sleeved red t-shirt with a letter Q on his chest, a pair of blue jeans and two black mountain boots named Quake who hails from planet Earth with his beloved elderly mother and sidekick Mama Lode who happens to be a little old lady where he resides in the center of the Earth's core and fight off against several super villains and rescues lots of people with a help of a package of Quake cereal which contains sugary sweet and crispy cereal pieces shaped like mechanical gears that has the taste of crunchy letter Q's in which they're powered with its deep-down sweetness and Vitamins and Iron which gives him his trademark power of an Earthquake. And together, they engage in a contest to see which of them was better than each other.

If there are any Quake fans out there (I'm one so there has to be more) who want to see the best treatment of Quake's rivalry with Quisp, I HIGHLY recommend the web comic Breakfast of the Gods. It's a dark murder mystery involving every cereal mascot EVER. I knew Quake and Quisp would have a cameo at the least, but their inclusion ended up being my favorite part of it. I can't spoil anymore, please read it. It's fantastic!

Quisp has that mean little disintegration beam pistol, but he also has a strong moral fiber and a sense of fair play, so he doesn't zap Quake. Quake has big bulk musclebound braun, and could probably slap-down Arnold Schwartzenager, but he also has a patient and kind demeanor, so he doesn't swat Quisp like an ornery house fly. - Later they were both replaced by "baron redberry" and "sir grapefellow".

I think this was the first instance of twin released "dueling cereals" on the American market. General Mills duplicated this 6 years later with the more successful Count Chocula & Franken-Berry cereals. I'll bet Quisp's voice and antics were based on Jerry Lewis...

Yeah, dude. Didn't you watch the ad? There was a hotly-contested political race between these two completely identical cereals. You had to send in the ballot on the back of the box. The only difference between them was shape; a third shape was sold as Captain Crunch. In other words, it was a beginner's introduction to the American political system. Anyway, I was a Quisp man. Woohoo! We, uh, "won".
@charles2241

They weren't identical at all. We had both and Quake was better. Quisp was closer to Capn Crunch. I might add, Cheerios was my breakfast cereal, while at times I ate Quake or Quisp dry for dessert, and that's how I know they tasted different. In a bowl of milk you probably couldn't tell.

"Quangaroos" was the progressive step from the "orange moose" in Post "crispy critters". In 1964 "Bullwinkle" was the new Jay Ward hit, but "linus the lionhearted" was almost totally geared to sell cereal. "super sugar crisp", "alphabets", "rice crinkles" etc. I remember the first run as a kid, but information was very limited at that time, so I did not know every specific detail. Many new products were being introduced at that time. - Why bother looking up such trivialities?

This was a very strange campaign. First of all the motif's are a bit odd to be targeting at kids. Quake's and Aliens...very peculiar. Then there was the poll. As far as I can tell it was unique. I'm racking my brain trying to think of another "marketing campaign" even remotely similar. I can't even think of a company that pitted two of it's own (fully launched) products against each other, let alone one where the decision is made by children and the losing product gets removed from the market? As I recall the winner (by a wide margin) "Quisp" didn't last more than a couple years after all that effort.. Very curious.
