Jens Larsen haha, sure! You know your jazz!!! I will only do a few ones based on actual standards tho.. most of them will be based more around concepts.. like fast jazz blues, minor 2-5-1, rhythm changes, etc :)

This is great! When I was playing I started singing all the notes I played and it was absolutely amazing how much more musical my improvisation got immediately. That is the best method for breaking out of patterns and scale shapes and really playing what's in your head. Highly recommended. Great sounding backing track, too. Thanks

Nice Quistjam ! If I may suggest something, commonly used scales are G melodic minor on the Gm (more often Gm6 than Gm7) and A locrian 9M on the Am7b5. Same scale for the chord voicings (and D altered on D7 as you suggested of course). Hope that helps! Keep rockin'!

Man, great work. I love it a lot. In the beginning of the video, where you are doing some impro, you are using some chords that i love the sound, but i cannot both recognize nor reproduce, is really frustrating, can you tell me the name of the chords if is not very annoying?
@QuistJam9 жыл бұрын
Thanks Santiago Braga :) The whole first bit is in octaves (the same note in two different registers)... then chords at 0:36 Am(7)b5 to D7#9b13 (the hendrix chord, without the root note)... followed by D7#5#9 / D7#5b9 - Gm9 Gm11 - and then back to the octaves.... I hope that helps \m/

Hi man,, Great Jazz Backing tracks I have been jamming along your stuff for a while now and I was wondering if I can use some of those tracks for my upcoming jazz session videos and I will of course keep it credited to you and under your name ( Backing track by QuistJam) Also I was wondering if you have any or will be making more complex form of backing tacks ( Key changes etc) It would be more interesting for me in that manner. Thanks YOU are awesome and keep the good work.

QuistJam I think i would like to see some cool progression that uses some alt. chords. A lot of people don't really go into depths of dominant chords, something on that theme would be nice... Thank you once again, for this great backing track.
@chriszoupa78989 жыл бұрын
My theory is a little hazy on numbers... Shouldn't it be a 7 5 6?? m7b5 dom7 Gm7??? Sorry for the question.
@QuistJam9 жыл бұрын
+Chris Zoupa (Learn That Solo) cool man!! it's 7 and 6 if you see it from the perspective of the relative major (Bb) yes... but most people would choose to see it as Gm being the root (the relative minor of Bb major)... hence Am7b5 (II), D7 (V), Gm7 (I).... I hope that helps!!!?!

@yee80218 жыл бұрын
How do you play that octave thing on the start. Is there a possibility that you write a tab for it ?
@charlienixon69578 жыл бұрын
just play octaves in the scale...nothing much to it. I mean worst comes to worst and you have to learn it by ear which is less time consuming than reading out tab let alone typing it out.

I found that a Bb major scale works beautifully over this. Can anyone help me understand why?
@Turned7139 жыл бұрын
***** Bb major is the enharmonic equivalent of G minor... same exact notes, different mood based on how and where you resolve it. This same principle applies all the way up the 'modes,' for instance you could also play a really nice C Dorian scale on top of this, the only problem would be resolving it, since this clearly wants to resolve to Minor (also known as Aeolian to the greeks). You might be able to get away with it if you substituted the iim7b5 chord with a ivm7. As complex as all of this MIGHT sound it's actually very simple compared to real jazz theory. :P

@chukaitao8 жыл бұрын
Often times you'll find a dominant 7 chord preceding the 1 chord. So while D Phyrgian would be diatonically correct, this composition chooses to play otherwise. That said, I like to add a flat 13 to the D7 .
