🎼 TABS, SCALE MAPS + LESSONS 👉 / quistjam From slow swing (80 BPM), through medium swing to very fast swing (300 BPM) - this is a 1 hour long jazz practice jam track for improvising on major 2-5-1 progressions in all 12 keys! Starts at 0:40. Perfect for beginners as well as advanced players...
Challenge yourselves!!!!! Thanks for sharing the love...HAVE FUN!
The 2-5-1 progression is one of the most essential building blocks of jazz. If you were to practice with this track every day for 1 month, your jazz improv skills would undoubtedly sky-rocket and you'd be able to apply your newly-gained prowess on a vast number of jazz standards!
The track moves through all 12 keys a total of four times! Quite a thorough jazz workout, which will surely improve your playing and open up new paths....
Chord progression:
II: Dm7 I G7 I Cmaj7 I Cmaj7 :II
Then
II: Ebm7 I Ab7 I Dbmaj7 I Dbmaj7 :II
And so forth....
(see the video for each progression as the track goes on)
In theory, you can start by sticking to the relevant major scale in each key - as in C major scale on Dm7 - G7 - Cmaj7.
Next up, try outlining the chord tones/arpeggios:
Cmaj7 arpeggio = c e g b
Dmin7 arpeggio = d f a c
G7 arpeggio = g b d f
Playing C Major scale will result in C Ionian (Cmaj7 chords), D Dorian (Dm7 chords) and G Mixolydian (G7 chords) - all the same 7 notes!
Then, I'd recommend trying out some more advanced colours on the dominant chord (G7/G13) by using the
G diminished 1/2-1 tone scale = G Ab Bb B C# D E F (G)
....and then repeat in all 12 keys!!!!
//////////////////////////////////
Here's a 2-5-1 jazz lick to get you started: goo.gl/3MZ2ck
Here's a diminished 1/2-1 tone scale lick (Symmetric Diminished), used by John Coltrane (for example): goo.gl/0cMOgh
Click here goo.gl/GD3K8s for more free 2-5-1 jam tracks :)
//////////////////////////////////
I hope you'll find this useful for your jazz practice...
Happy jazzing!!

And it gives you something to shoot for. One of the best vids for any musician or wantabe musician, guitar player or any instrument. Thanks for sharing.

I'm still working on it... was amazing to first try this couple of years ago... mind exploded... but its hard to make good jazz melody... its great for tempo and subdivisions... I just did 41 minutes and got tempo'd out... was trying to play melodies that include 1357 over each chord... was trying to use envelopment here and there... and trying to include triplets and a proper swing feel... painful and lovely at the same time EDIT: I forgot to mention I also include chromatic passing notes between my whole tones Jeez... playing jazz is like attempting to be a maths genius... I try to be sometimes artistic and sometimes technical but it still fries my brain

It is all in my head not in the technique. I bailed out at 250 (on guitar). Around that speed when my brain lags behind too much and I just move my fingers from muscle memory but with very little control over the melodic line. 3-4 years ago I remember I felt like this around 230, before that 200ish was my limit. I still remember the time when 180 felt like the speed of light. I'll be back in a couple of years to see how 250 feels then.
