Hey kids! Watch this short story that explains a very important value of life and that is accepting everyone without being judgemental about their physical appearance. It does not matter whether the person looks beautiful or ugly or whether he is rich or poor. What really matters is the nature of the person.
ACCEPT PEOPLE AS THEY ARE
Ian was the most popular kid in school. He was known for his expensive cars and rich looks. He was cherished and awed by everyone.“I want to be in his group,” said the boys in the class when they saw Ian chilling with his friends. Ian lived in a big house and his expensive toys and clothes were enough to impress the kids at school. However, he had certain standards set while choosing friends. So, those who were able to get into his group felt highly classy.
IAN: To be my friend you must have some class. If you are ugly or pathetic or poor, please don’t waste my time.
One day, things changed, when a new boy, named Tim, joined the school. His intelligence and wit started to attract
everyone. After the first session of exams, he became popular for standing out in academics as well as co-curricular activities at school. He was an all-rounder.Now everyone wanted to be Tim’s friend. Unlike Ian, Tim was not so choosy about his friends. Two days before Ian’s birthday, his best friend Jake came to him.
JAKE: You should invite Tim too. He is fun.
IAN: Nah! Look at the way he dresses. He looks like a rag picker. He brings that cheap lunch box to school and such tasteless food. He can’t match up to us.
JAKE: Oh! Come on, he’s really cool. Give him a chance. You guys might hit it off!
IAN: Okay! But, only if you insist. And, make sure he doesn’t ruin the party.
Ian was not so sure of the idea, but just because his best friend insisted, he invited Tim to his party. The moment Tim arrived,he became the life of theparty.
JAKE: Hey look... Everybody loves Tim!
IAN: That’s only because they pity him. I can’t stand his clothes and his poor jokes. He’s such a low class guy. I told you he’d ruin my party. And the gift he brought... even my servants know better than him. Now, get rid of him.
Jake was speechless and didn’t know how to pacify Ian.
After that day, Ian started calling him, ‘Tim the Cheapster’. Also, he strictly instructed his close friends to stay away from Tim, as his frugal lifestyle was not allowed in his group.Soon, the kids in school began to think of Tim as poor. They called him names and made fun of him often. However most of the kids did so in fear of Ian. This kind of
treatment left a bad effect on Tim. He began to feel low. One day, Jake invited him to his birthday party, which left Tim
JAKES: Hey buddy, it’s my birthday tomorrow. You have to come. No excuses!
TIM: Sure! Thanks... I’ll... I’ll try... That’s very kind of you!
Everyone was surprised on seeing Tim at the party. He gifted Jake an expensive remote controlled helicopter.
JAKES: You didn’t need to get this. I like you as you are, and not for your gifts. I like Tim and I feel proud to have him as my friend. We shouldn’t judge anyone on their looks or belongings. All of you wanted to be his friend too, until you found out he isn’t rich. It’s not fair to ignore him just because Ian doesn’t like him.
Everyone was surprised and couldn’t utter a word. Tim interrupted and revealed him that he too belonged to a rich family but his mother had always taught him not to flash money because it was his father’s hard work. On hearing this, everyone was impressed and accepted Tim for his
humbleness. So did Ian, and since then everyone was welcomed. Nobody was chosen for their status.
TIM: Guys, it’s fun to be together! Accepting each one as they are, strengthens bonds. This group truly rocks!!!
