A bit more than 25 years ago I was trying to fly home from Paris. I was flying on a non-revenue ticket because I was a travel agent. I non-revenue ticket means that I only pay the taxes and fees, and no revenue to the airline. The disadvantage of this is that we are the first to get bumped if the flight is oversold. The flight was oversold, and I got bumped. I went to my gate agent and explained what had happened. She said I’ll put you on an available flight. And she asked if I mind going through New York on my way home. I said no that’s fine. She gave me a new boarding pass. She then proceeded to produce a new boarding pass. I looked at it along with the ticket and it was issued in R class. I was shocked! I said this ticket is for the Concorde! She said yeah I know, the Concorde lounge is that way. And she went on with her work. I have never forgotten the experience! 😸
