@@whitbyabbey4830 actually yes it does the studies don't lie and it is abuse in the eyes of DCS how do I know this because this was one of the reasons why I was taken out of the abusive foster home by DCS not to mention the mental, and emotional abuse I suffered from spanking and the other abuse I suffered such as getting locked out on the back porch telling me that the snakes and rats are going to get you, making me do pushups in the middle of the night all because we woke her up because we wanted breakfast, selling all our stuff in a garage sale we barely had nothing, and made us wash our clothes in the sink so yes all of this affected me including spanking, spanking affects the child in every way so what is the definition of abuse to cause physical, mental and emotional harm which spanking causes all of this there is plenty of ways of disciplining a child that works that don't involve spanking so saying that children are not disciplined you are wrong because they are just not your way of disciplining

That aside, since this is fiction, and it all worked out, the episode itself is fine, and I'm glad Peggy learned her own lesson. I agree with the Boomers. Discipline in general has gone downhill since all the soft parents have been confusing abuse with discipline. Despite "popular" opinion, there IS a difference between the two. And, there are things that only a good spanking can fix. I was spanked as a kid, I'm not traumatized. In fact, I think I turned out for the better from it. In schools, it wasn't so much about the act itself, as it was the Embarrassment Factor. Example: You shouldn't just let your kid scream and roll on the floor of a store, embarrassing you, and anyone you're with, simply because you told them "no, you can't have (item)". You jerk them up, carry them out to the car, and you go to town on those little cheeks. These soft umbrella punishments just don't work for every kid. Every situation is different. That being said, spanking is, and will always be, a LAST RESORT. And, after about an hour of them wallowing in their deserved pain, you always make sure to discuss with them WHY they were punished like that, why their behavior was wrong, and why they shouldn't do it again. Please stop confusing discipline and abuse, please people.

What you describe is not discipline, not according to current studies on child care. That is DISGUSTING, and you give no evidence to support anything but "It didn't affect ME" which is incredibly arrogant, and Boomers are no better off than any generation by any information that I know of. If the child can be reasoned with enough to understand the punishment, you _should_ be able to talk them out of it or use other methods, and if they _can't_ then they can't understand _why_ you're hitting them. Spanking and pain accomplish nothing that I know of that other punishments can't do, other than making the child suffer and fear you, which is NOT what a good parent would want. That, and it teaches kids that a stronger person hurting a weaker person is okay. Authority is _allowed_ to abuse you, which is NOT a lesson I want ANYONE to learn. I could say more, but I'm too busy to continue. Two sources that support my point are *PsychologyToday* and *VeryWellFamily* If you don't have any science or experts behind you, generalizations that are abhorrently selfish to make on something that hurts people.
