When you find yourself struggling with comparison, here is one quote and one theory to help turn that struggle into a win. First up, the quote:
“To improve, compare little things. To be miserable, compare big things. Comparison is the thief of joy when applied broadly but the teacher of skills when applied narrowly.” ~James Clear
The theory comes from author Jon Acuff, and he shares that our brains are always looking for ways to see our progress. One of these ways is through comparison. If our brains can’t see progress, they will automatically look outside of us to give us data to tell us how we’re doing. The solution? Track how you’re doing.
Compare you against you. Use this crucial data to speed up your progress. After all, it’s just data. It says nothing about you. It’s just data. So use it!
