A quick tip for the quotient rule: If you have f(x) on top call it high and if you have g(x) on bottom call it low and the derivative is d if the function is (High) ----------- (low) you take low * d(high) - high *d(low) ----------------------------------------- (low)^2 say it out loud and the trick is low d high minus high d low over the low low this way you dont have to remember any awful functions or re-derive the quotient rule every time you need it

Nice, I also like low d high minus high d low square below

Aren't there hot keys Khan could enter to change colors? As smart as he is, it's hilarious seeing him constantly shift his pointer off and on screen when changing colors. Maybe the software he's using doesn't have those hot keys? Although it does add character to his videos :) I love Khan and his videos, I'm just teasing and think it's funny/cute.

Thanks Sal, much respect for you and what you've done. I'd like to ask -- how often do you film and to you just pick any topic to discuss?

I was struggling to find this topic as my book has this to do by yourself i was finding it so hard st last i found it which gave me a hint on it.🎉🎉🎉

This is so beautiful and i'll have to ask my lecturer today if they would accept this proof as we have not done chain rule as yet ,i guess if the world could have you as a lecturer everyone would be a mathematician, big ups keep up the good work, says a Bsc computer science and Mathematics major from Nelson Mandela University in the province of Eastern Cape, South Africa

Do you have an easy proof that doesn't require the chain rule? In Stewart's commonly used Early Transcendentals text, the quotient rule is learned before the chain rule. Thanks!

If that guy teaches the quotient rule before the chain rule, he's just bad at teaching.

I was working on these problems on the site and it said I was wrong because the quotient rule is f(x)g'(x) - f'(x)g(x) on the top. Which one is correct?
@anasozeer5 жыл бұрын
The one in the video.... But actually if the one on the site is NOT f(x) /g(x) but rather g(x) /f(x)... Then the one on the site too is correct...Hope it makes sense 😅

Dont forget abt Dividing by (f(x))²

Why and how does the prduct rule makes its place in there?
@j-wie54766 ай бұрын
2 years late but in case anyone else in the comments wonders: Because f(x)/g(x) is just f(x)*h(x) if h(x)=1/g(x) im adding an h(x) here because it shows that really f(x)/g(x) is just a product function: f(x)*h(x) which has a chain function inside of it: h(x)=1/g(x)
