Saint Agustine wanted to rearrange the words in John 17:3 because he couldn’t put his head around this verse. The term ‘’only’’ is exclusive which Jesus acknowledges to be the one true God. Augustine changed it: "That they may know you and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent, as the only true God." The Greek text simply does not corroborate Augustine’s Latin translation which suggests that the doctrine is a human construct rather than a result of rigorous biblical exegesis.

And fitnah is greater than killing. And they will continue to fight you until they turn you back from your religion if they are able. And whoever of you reverts from his religion [to disbelief] and dies while he is a disbeliever - for those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and those are the companions of the Fire, they will abide therein eternally." It is not mentioned in Quran but in hadith. Islamic scholars have two opinion on the subject: 1) Jesus, peace be upon him, was saved by God and taken to a secure place where he died a natural death and he is not going to return to earth, and 2) Jesus, peace be upon him, was lifted alive, he is still alive and will return to earth, break the cross and all Christians will become Muslims following him. The second opinion has basis on some hadith. However, personally to me the first opinion makes more sense because of the arguments presented in its favour: The word ‘rafaa’ which means to ‘to lift’ is not limited to the use of to ‘take one up alive’ but it is also used to ‘raise in status’. It has been used in this sense in Quran itself. One of the invocations we make while sitting in between prostrations of Muslim prayer is ‘God raise me in status/ranks (in religion)’. Allah says in Quran: ‘Those messengers - some of them We caused to exceed others. Among them were those to whom Allah spoke, and He raised some of them in degree. And We gave Jesus, the Son of Mary, clear proofs, and We supported him with the Pure Spirit. If Allah had willed, those [generations] succeeding them would not have fought each other after the clear proofs had come to them. But they differed, and some of them believed and some of them disbelieved. And if Allah had willed, they would not have fought each other, but Allah does what He intends. (Quran 2:253) The following verse of Quran makes it clear that Jesus, peace be upon him, has died and he like all other souls is in Alam- Al-Arawah which is like a sleep where they don’t have any knowledge of the world. When they will wake up on the Day of the Judgement they will not know what has passed in the world after them. Allah says: And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah ?'" He will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen (Quran 5:116) Quran makes it clear that the religion has been completed. How can religion be complete if a world shaking divine miracle is yet to take place. Allah says in Quran: ‘…This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger with no inclination to sin - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (Quran 5:3) However, it doesn’t matter what opinion do you believe in, the scholars agree that it makes no difference to a Muslim on what he is expected to do as part of the religion. There is no duty of Islam which is to be deferred waiting for the arrival of Jesus, peace be upon him. Quran leaves no doubt on fundamental obligations on mankind and Muslims.

The book of revelation tells the full prophecy of Jesus return, written many years before the Quran. It ends with these words:"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll." Jesus "returned" in AD 70 and "return" is a prophetic figure of speech. When you are Spirit there is no space-time and Jesus was with his disciples until the end of the world of the Jews, just as he promised. Let me start to say i respect your opinion. I also never compared Adam with Jesus as a person/prophet, but only the way they were brought into the world. As for the way you think Jesus was born, it's hard for me to believe that God would come to earth in human form to do all that. After all he created everything in and outside the universe, so again making someone pregnant would be easy. Even if it happened the way you say it, don't you think that the text on what you base it is altered in history, and that the true message of Jesus has not been preserved accurately. When you look at the history of Christians and the church it is not hard to find out that the bible as we know it is altered for many reasons (mainly political) and lots of Gospels were not used and declared heresy, others were changed and altered. My common sense can not take the bible for the word of God or teaching of Jesus accurately. But as long as we believe in the creator of all, God, and do good we will end up in a good place. But i will always use the reasoning and intellect that God gave us, and he shows very clearly in this world that the bible is not the most accurate teaching of a prophet from God.

I think this whole debate can be simplified if scholars who think Jesus would return stop calling it a matter of belief or part of creed. It is NOT. Quran is quite emphatic and clear on the matters of creed. Why don't they simply admit that there is no single verse in the Quran that states that Jesus would come back. It is definitely mentioned in many Ahadith. And we cannot take matters of creed or faith from Ahadith. Even in the most famous hadith of Jibrael in which Prophet said that Jibrael came to teach you your religion, the return of Jesus is not mentioned. The verses that scholars actually use for this is in Surah Nisa Ayah 159 and Surah Zukhruf Ayah 61. First take Surah Nisa Ayah 159: If we closely examine the verses in that section, we can easily notice that the pronoun mentioned in this Ayah is related to Quran (not Jesus) in Ayah 153. The subject in discussion is actually started from Ayah 153. Then in this Ayah and few next Allah SWT reminded the crimes of children of Israel: a) they did the same with Musa b) They transgressed in the matter of Sabt c) They killed prophets d) They vilified Mary e) They said we killed Jesus which Allah SWT denied they did not. Then Quran returned the topic back to where it started from (Ayah 153) that these people of the Book after seeing the punishment and the victory of Islam would certainly realized that this Book is from Allah SWT. Scholars mistakenly took the pronoun in Ayah 159 attributed to Jesus because he was mentioned in the Ayah before it. If we attribute the pronoun to Jesus then factually it is wrong. Between Jesus raised up in heaven and coming back again, there are millions of Jews who died and they never believed in him. So the Ayah is factually wrong which is not possible for the Book of Allah SWT. In Surah Zukhruf Ayah 61, Allah SWT is calling him the evidence for the resurrection not a sign near the day of judgment. These are two different things. Since Jesus used to bring dead alive and he was born without a father, Allah SWT called him an evidence for the resurrection and then said believe in the resurrection in the same Ayah. None of these Ayah are talking about Jesus coming back. So if these scholars simply say that yes, there are many ahadith related to Jesus return and we think he will come back but if you disagree that's your choice. That would fix this issue forever.
