6:42 no, the original dragon ball was shown on american tv back in the day. i remember when i was in kindergarten it would come on before pokemon in the mornings, so i would watch it while waiting for pokemon to air. that was back when the channel "wb kids" had tv distribution rights to both pokemon and dragon ball. wb kids wasnt a super popular tv channel however, so it eventually shut down and those shows ended up being aired on different channels after that. the toonami segment on cartoon network eventually became the home to dragon ball and thats where most people were first exposed to it. i think they aired original dragonball on there too, but dragon ball z was far more popular and still ongoing i believe so it got more screen time. toonami only aired on certain days after 10 pm so they didnt have much time for many reruns
7:44 No. It is not that America is weird, it is just that western countries have different values when it comes to sexual jokes, especially sexual jokes made by children. Dragon Ball has scenes where he peeks under Bulma's clothing, and there are a lot of scenes where Bulma, a character that looks very young, is sexualized and sexually touched by old men and Goku. I know japan has very relaxed values when it comes to touching women inappropriately or making jokes about it, especially in trains and videogames, especially since the age of consent in japan has been very low historically. In the west it feels too close to sexualizing children. So it is considered an "adult" show. Crayon Shin Chan joins other American cartoons (rick and morty, ren and stimpy, etc. etc.) with very adult themes in the 'adult time slot'.
ah.. oh yeah. i think the english pokemon song get so iconic, it was used as the main song for translation instead. even until after 10-15 years, that song still stick to me since it came out.

15:24 Pirates in Western stories fall into two categories: the first, being just mercenaries and thieves. valuing only money and riches. the second, being people who value freedom and not being tied to corrupt empires and governments. you see, pirates first came to power during the Age of Exploration, during which the European powers were creating empires, and recruiting a lot of men to be sailors and soldiers to die for causes not their own. It was also the time when the Catholic Church and the great corporations like the Dutch East India company were colonizing the world. There is a lot of romance and rebellion in not wanting to be part of that corrupt system and just be a pirate.
