To anyone curious, OP did update again recently. Basically, the divorce went through smoothly, and she sent Amy all the evidence proving everything her idiot ex said were lies, but either Amy is an idiot, or Joe has a silver tongue, because Amy forgave him for his lies and they're still together. On a more positive note, OP is in therapy, got a promotion at work, and has roommates in her home now. All in all, Op's doing great, so there's that at least; I'm frankly losing my sympathy for Amy.
@momomomo__10 ай бұрын
I still feel awful for amy. it sounds like the poor girl has been sheltered with no relationship experience her whole life, and with the language she used, it was a religious sheltered home, which makes it even worse. she's a prime potential victim of manipulation, specially by a man 10 years older than her who's clearly getting lessons from the podcast andrew tate guys. I hope she manages to find someone that helps her out of the situation, because people who've been manipulated to that point don't just snap out of it on their own usually, and if they do, they're too scared to get out on their own. I assume his next step is having amy quit her job to become a stay at home mom, which will make her even more sheltered and easily manipulated.

People seem to know that you can have both or neither but don't really get you can have one or the other. Amy is clearly intelligent, meaning book smart but her wisdom meaning street smarts and ability to understand herself, others and the situations she finds herself in is extremely low. I feel really bad for her because she used some God language when talking about her pregnancy, between that and being a virgin in her 20's because she was school focused, she sounds like she grew up SUPER sheltered which only sets people up to be used and abused once they get out into the real world. Which is literally what happened to her, an older man lied to and manipulated her into a relationship and falsely impregnated her to baby trap her to him...

She's 24 and already in an Executive Mentoring Program for a finance career. It sounds like she was a sheltered prodigy who wasn't allowed to focus on anything beyond her education and thus has zero skills for interpersonal interactions and fell for the 'you're so mature for your age' bullshit. It's a legitimate danger when a kid is gifted and parents should definitely support it, but it shouldn't be the only thing they have going for them.

I remember this saga. I remember thinking that amy's social/emotional development most likely took a back seat to her education. We learn how to socialize and develop our EQ by being around our peer group, skipping grades and graduating early and such would have made relating to kids her own age hard, and also the people she's always been surrounded by weren't like her. She was and is a kid in a world of adults. I'd say she'd have been an easy target for OP's trash ex to manipulate.

This mentality runs rampant through the finance sector. They have their own versions of "Trophy Wives", who ideally make 2/3 of what their husband makes, and are successful in their own right, while still being "dependent" (they are oblivious to that contradiction). They want a woman with a very lucrative "hobby" that doesn't stop them from being the perfect 1950's TV housewife. It's a dick-measuring contest. Interestingly, these guys aren't even the real predators. There are a lot of very intelligent, very attractive young women who realize this vulnerability, and exploit it. They ride these poor saps to the top rungs of the corporate ladder, make sizable profits on multiple divorces, and sometimes deliberately use them as unwitting sperm-donors so they can have their dream family, financed by the father who is not in the picture. It sounds horrible, and it is, but there are even Facebook groups where women with those specific ambitions trade tips on how to lock down that lifestyle. It's unhinged. I don't think "Amy" is one of these people, but guys like "Joe" are a prime target for them. I would not be shocked if one of these women targets him quickly and there's a new woman in his life within a few months. He thinks he's the biggest fish in a small pond, but there's a Megalodon out there with a pert ass, perky boobs and a Harvard MBA looking to make a quick snack out of him. It's only a matter of time. He's too stupid to evade them. He will take the bait. I've worked with a lot of these woman, and they are not "Gold diggers" looking for a sugar daddy. They're something else entirely. They use people as stepping stones toward much grander ambitions. Think Elizabeth Holmes levels of sociopathy. Guys like "Joe" are exactly what they're hunting for. He's doomed. Role-reversal is practically inevitable. If OP was just a hapless $45k a year helpdesk technician who smoked pot and played video games all day, I'd take her as she is, sight-unseen, lol. She's chill and can pay her own rent, that checks most of my boxes, lol. These guys who chase after the "perfect woman" are insane. Perfect is boring. Boring and high maintenance. When it comes to relationships, I think Alice Cooper nailed it in his song "You and Me". That's what people should strive for if they want to be happy. If that's not enough, nothing ever will be. This "Amy" will figure it out in due time. I get it, he's fed her lies, she has no reason to believe OP, and she's inexperienced and very vulnerable right now, so those lies likely give her a lot of comfort. She doesn't want to see the truth. If she did, she'd have asked to see the divorce settlement agreement that would confirm or refute what "Joe" has told her. She's making a choice to not look under that rock. But when she requested to speak to OP, I think there were some doubts there, even if she's not ready to face them. I'm confident she'll figure out the truth. Lies concealed by more lies... it's a house of cards. He can't keep that up forever. The good news, at his $200k salary, when she comes to her senses, she'll be entitled to about $450/week (conservatively) in child support. That's not a ton of money, but it will pay for the kid and their college fund, and financial firms don't look fondly on wage garnishment for non-payment... they are sticklers on things like fiduciary responsibility, so he can't duck payments without a serious hit to his career prospects, earnings and lifestyle. It will be in his best interest to pay up, no questions asked. It will be a hard road ahead for Amy, but not too hard, especially if her earnings are comparable to his (which it sounds like they are). And OP may feel a bit foolish for having believed him for so long. But she sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders and won't be too hard on herself. I have faith in her resiliency.

@@lillylovegood2300 She's definitely in "denial" stage. She's got anger, bargaining, grief, and acceptance left to go. Plus, she's most likely given birth by now. Nevertheless, you are right: _she_ made the choice to engage in an adulterous relationship with a married man, no matter how he presented that marriage to her. Oh, I’d bet folding money that Amy will double down, shut it all out of her mind, and waste way too much time with this asshole before the truth smacks her in the face. She has no incentive to admit the truth now: she’s *very* pregnant and in a very vulnerable position, plus she’s still love-drunk over this guy. Maybe she’ll gather up her strength and kick this asshole to the curb, but the odds are heavily against it. I’d actually be able to summon up a modicum of respect for her (not more than a modicum, though) if she does. And I’ve met plenty of people who were book-smart but had absolutely no common sense so the truth of the story notwithstanding (because it sounds like a cheap romance novel), people like Amy do exist.

just checked and the FINAL update from OP is up. It took tons of evidence for Amy to finally believe her, but she did... and forgave Joe for lying because "he had good reasons." My wife and my son are my entire world. I love them more than anything and can't stand the thought of hurting them in any way. I'll be honest, my wife does have health issues that I deal with alongside her. Supporting her through her own struggles because at the end of the day I want her to feel loved and happy. Even if I work my ass off while she is sleeping and can't always share our marital bed together. I still would NOT ask her to do this stuff that OP's lame ex did. Because for one, I unwind from work by cooking for my family. Its a healthy outlet for my frustrations at work I feel because I put that energy into a show of affection towards my family. At the same time my wife helps keep our house clean and our son healthy. We find it to be a very strong balance of responsibilities. And with that our relationship is stronger than so many others. While there were some truths in there (the minor stuff was all true - my mother isn't perfect) but there were massive lies that I knew for a fact were completely false. Strangely enough he seems to have failed to tell her that he cheated on my mother with multiple women for decades, she was the last in a long line and was stupid enough to get pregnant. Anyway, the fact that she never considered that her source was bias and a cheater (and therefore a proven liar) told me that she was an idiot. So basically he is mad at OP because her job allows her to work comfortably and gives her a flexible schedule? If he don’t like his job then he should find a new one at a different place. Also, he is complaining over the very minor things OP stopped doing? This man doesn’t want a wife, he wants a maid. So basically his expectations and standards grew and OP doesn’t reach those standards. This guy is becoming more and more of a red flag Second Update: There it is, the red flag in full display. This man called OP "low valued" because she wasn’t a virgin when they met? Also, OP says they met at 21 and they're both not overly religous so was he expecting to find a woman who is and would wait until marriage for sex. I found it hilarious he called OP entitled when he was acting the exact same way 😂. This man has some massive balls to admit to cheating in the condecsending way he did Third Update: Whaaaaaaat??? This man claims that because OP is "low value in standard" his cheating don’t count?! This man is a scumbag and OP can find someone much better (and easily) than this prick Fourth Update: Lmao this guy pretty much downgraded from OP to this woman living in a small apartment. All because Amy was a virgin and he got her pregnant. The fact that OP has a lot of money left in her fun money account after all the court fees, lawyer fees, spa, and getaway speaks volumes of how great OP is with her money Fifth Update: Lmaoooo Joe told Amy lie after lie just to make himself look good. The fact he really told Amy that the house was his, that OP was a high school drop out, a drug addict, and all kinds of bs just to get with Amy is baffling. Amy is honestly screwed if she is going to stay with this guy because it seems like the whole thing with OP is going to repeat with Amy. Amy needs to get the reality check asap before this scumbag ruins her life

Honestly, at this point, Amy is coming off as one of those women who just believes in their man and would never in a million years believe that he would lie or betray her in anyway shape or form and if anyone tells her otherwise, then the person is lying just to get them to break up. Like, if feels like Amy would go after and blame the other woman claiming that she's stealing Joe from her if she sees Joe cheating on her.

Hearing the part of the story of the now ex-husband talking about resenting her for not keeping up with things around the house and belittling her had me walking around the house singing the melody for “La Donna e Mobile” with the words changed to “He’s f***ing someone else”. This story is NUTS!!

When the update said he cheated, him originally telling her that she should've put all of that money she had into the joint account was straight up him wanting to just take that money back out to give to Amy. Thank goodness OP didn't return those items like he asked.

The husband is a fool plain and simple. He probably wanted some form of a trophy wife for his status as a yuppy in the 80's term. And the fact she is independent and known what she wants and is comfortable in her life. That 80/20 rule is real, you get majority of what you want and that little bit you desire is just that. Amy is reaching for the stars like him but his mistake was getting her pregnant. He basically baby trapped himself, because that baby will cause them to not have the good life he was used to. And Amy may take a hiatus in her career to take care of the baby which would mean that the ex would have to care for all of them in less of the matter of living he was used to. Live for now and face the consequences.

Eh tbh he'd probably just cheat on her and leave all the house and child stuff to her

My husband and I broke up just before the pandemic, and we still live together as roommates. We will be selling the house next year. He has had the same girlfriend for all this time, maybe 6 mo before we split. We moved away for his job for 18 mo., then back again. I had to quit my job of 14 years. Now I'm 50, poor health, and jobless. Life sure has turned out great. I wasted 23 years of my life, I'm glad OP is in a better situation. ❤

I feel sorry for Amy, because it this dirt bag tricked her and judging by his expectations of OP, is going to leave her high and dry once reality sets in. A baby means rush meals, a tired mother who'll prioritize comfort over looking good, messy houses, and often the mother staying at home for a couple years at least to care for the child meaning her career will be on pause.

She's a 100/10, anyone would be lucky to have her. An amazing salary, makes HOMEADE dinners (seriously, that from-scratch assorted bread bowl was insane), is a gamer, whats not to like?? She's a catch and she should know it. 10+ years of marriage is not worth it, don't settle with a mistake just because you put so much time into making it.

Reminded me just how long I've been listening to your voice, your stories, opinions and stuff... I hope you are doing well, my friend... I can call you a friend, right? What exactly was going through his mind when OP’s husband made any of these decisions? The lies he told Amy, chasing after this girl, trying to gaslight Op into thinking she wasn’t putting as much effort into the relationship as him, getting Amy pregnant, bragging about the affair- what was he thinking?!

As soon as the husband started to call OP a "low-value woman," why he thought that, and then followed up that BS by stating she wasn't owed monogamy, I found myself thinking that this douchebag has been listening to Andrew Tate type crap.

Hi, I am F23 (soon 24) with 0 dating experience. *DON’T EXCUSE HER* You really don’t have to have a dating experience to smell this bs from a mile. Like: he told her the wife „gets high at night so he can’t leave her alone” and then file for divorce? He got a vasectomy and miraculously the wife didn’t notice and didn’t think why she did not get pregnant? Does this girl think the husband would pay for the wife’s lawyer for divorce proceedings? And the photo of the same house she lives in where she’s with her grandma was manifested into existence because the wife magically predicted her presence? Also, you can spot someone doing drugs for years very easily, even when they hide it. This girl is either stupid or deep in denial. I am guessing denial, it will dawn on her when she takes a moment to think about it.
