I am a massage therapist for 25 years. I was introduced to Canyon Trilogy while attending massage school in 1998. I have played this particular album every day since during all my massage sessions. Everyone comes out of my sessions cleansed & feeling lighter. No one ever asks for different music. I personally can also go to sleep to it most nights. It brings me peace & joy. Reliving my experience floating down the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon. Other worldly, profound beauty & Serenity. Thank you Carlos Nakai.

I massage ppl to:this as well. Low ..and after I cleanse the room with sage. Ppl say they almost transcend into forgetting time and drift off the. I rub a feather down the spine to let them know I’m done but I tell them that first so their body knows to come out of it

My aunt gave me a canyon trilogy tape in the 90s, I always loved listening to it. (Even years later, road trip up through Idaho then Montana on the way to visit her) She is still with us, but several years ago she suffered a debilitating stroke and cannot communicate except through a couple words. We no longer make the journey up north to visit her. When I hear this music I think of her and all the fond memories from our family times together. It's happy yet sad.

Almost 30 years ago I heard this for the first time, when I was in Manitoulin Island, Ontario. My Mother - she was with me at that time - she immediately went to the store and bought the cassette. She did not care about the price - no matter how much was it, she was just determined to buy this cassette. Since then almost every morning I always listen to it with great pleasure...!

@@ericgonzales5057 so this is why I cry when I hear this. Lost husband 16 yrs ago. Lost my son 1 1/2 ago to falling down my basement stairs. This hurts bad. Just lost my wonderful sister in-law to cancer on 9/11/2021. She had been in a coma at home with love ones around her. She opened her eyes smiled squeezed my brothers hand, closed her eyes & took her last breath. Her wind chimes outside (she loved her wind chimes. There was no wind at all that day until she went home to be with their daughter (found dead 1/19/2017 she was a drug addict) & all at once their was this wind & her chimes began to sing. Then all at once it just stopped. It was her. My late husband was half native american & love the flute music. I know he's listening to flute music now. Now it's time for me to go to sleep I have my 6 yr old granddaughter (I call her lovebunny since she's was 45 minutes old. I'm the only only one that is allowed to call her lovebunny)tomorrow.. I walk to her school (no public school for her) & we walk back to Me Maw's house ( about round trip for me is 3-4 minutes) to play & listen to native american flute music, she loves it. She'll fall asleep listening to it until mommy picks her up. Good night & everyone sleep well tonight & everynight.

I bought this album years and years ago at Montezuma's Castle gift shop. I think they were playing it overhead. It's the single biggest reason I eventually moved to Arizona, just drawn to that feeling. I'd call it melancholic, like you want to go back to some place you loved or like you are in the presence of all the things you love most in the world and you know it's all passing and will soon be gone.

I lived outside Flagstaff as a young teen. Wupatki National Monument, and many more unnamed and pretty much unknown native American sites in the area fascinated me. This music takes me back to those days, and those places. Many times I feel like I should have never left. I go back from time to time, and the leaving gets harder each trip. One day I plan to return and never leave again.

Wow.So good to hear this again! thanks to Dennis Disbaud. It was so difficult to hear this music the first few years, decades ago when I first played the disc.Your mileage may vary, but I had to really work at it.It opens the experience of non- being, nothingness, the hollow, the void, the shadow as the natural counterpoint to regular old day to day unconscious, unthinking, frustrated, angry being and that opening experience takes a lot of getting used to.But you do:)

Yes.....try to listen to the sounds of the Native American Sacred Ceremonial Songs, they are the real deal too.......Peyote music, from the Native America Church.....and songs from the Pueblos, the tribes....the Native Peoples of the desert southwest....the Hopi , Tewa, and all the Pueblos, have the same beautiful quality.....You can even go to New Mexico, the birthplace and home of Carlos Nakai, to hear and see the dances performed at the various Pueblos too. 19 Pueblos are there in New Mexico, the "Heart of Indian Country"....Check out the annual "Ceremonial" celebration in Gallup, New Mexico.... ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DISPLAYS OF THE PUEBLO CULTURES.....unique in all the world....... In fact, all over the state of New Mexico, they have dances and Sacred Ceremonies , many of which are open to the public.......year round.......If you love this music, you owe it to yourself to go to New Mexico.....I must caution you, however, just go well prepared, and get ready to "stay a while", because once you go there, you will not ever want to come back to where you came from.....

SInce Phoenix is now the 5th largest city in the USA, I imagine a lot of people really did decide to pack up and follow this music. Although, I'll admit, Phoenix, the city, doesn't really capture this vibe, but it's a short drive in any direction to find it whenever you want it. Or as I posted elsewhere create it in your southwest backyard.

@@thnkr0917 yes, you are right to move there....Phx. is a big city, but still, there is a lot of really beautiful Cultural connections right there in that city...which I discovered, when I lived in Tempe......If you want to participate in real Native American Sacred Ceremony, and you are sincere about it, and actually have a real purpose to be there, you can find it right there...... right in downtown Phx...even if you are not Native..The "Indian Rehab Center," the Native American center that is run specially for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts, war vets, soldiers with PSTD, and ex-cons, suffering from the many kinds of traumas of being incarcerated, and people who have been and are still "homeless" , living a horrid, dangerous painful life on the streets, etc.....all people who are really seriously suffering, and need to get the Power from the Sacred Ceremony to recover , and once and for all, have good lives...... is the place to go......Talk to the guy that runs it, his last name was "McDonald", when I was there....(I forgot his first name).....and he invited me to come to the Sweat Lodge that they held there, and do so often...So strange for me, at the time, to see that ancient structure standing there, with the fire burning, the glowing red hot rocks, in the barren sandy back yard of the center, being right next to huge, giant, modern high-rise glass buildings.....like the blending of 2 Worlds, literally, side by side...It was a Sweat run by the Diné, and it was both men and women inside, (not the Lakota way, of separate Lodges for men and women) ....and the woman running it, that day, was a very powerful woman, like in her 40's, who had all of us in there crying a river of tears, and I will never forget her words she said, and the sound of her voice...She talked about not ever taking anything we have in this life for granted, like the Sacred Gift of speech, as an example....We all just take it for granted, that we can "speak"...but we need to give daily thanks for that Sacred Gift, because to loose that Gift, is very sad indeed......I saw my wife, in the hospital dying from toxic effects of chemo, and cancer, 7 years ago, and 4 days before she passed away, she lost her abilty to speak........It left her, and she could not say a single word, just groan in pain, and agony, because she was REALLY suffering so much horrid extreme pain....that was all..groan, and cry........At my insistence, they did a brain scan to make sure she did not have a stroke, and she did not.....She just lost the "ability" to speak.......Her brain was functioning perfectly..She could hear me, and understand me, at least, just not speak any words to me.........(the docs said to me , then, "it was "normal " for all dying chemo patients to loose speech", they told me, that "we see it happen all the time here". I was so angry at them)..It was so so so sad for her, (and me), not to be able to say any "last words" to me. I stayed with her 24.7 to the end, (in hospice then) , as the last thing she DID say to me the day before she lost her speech, was " I want you to get me out of here"...So I did....I got her out of the torture chamber hospital, and into hospice.....where she passed, 24 hours later, pain free, peacefuly......We need not take any of the Sacred Gifts we have been given freely, like the ability to walk around, to drink and eat, to pee and poo, to see , to hear, to speak, etc.... "for granted", which we all do.......Until we loose any 1 of those Gifts, then, we REALLY understand, really, seriously, what it is, not to take anything "for granted" any more....We learn to give Thanks..We learn to be humble....We learn , how to really pray, straight from the Heart...It is something that I sure discovered about myself, that day in the intense darkness of the Sweat Lodge, so hot I could barely breathe...I discovered , that I didn't know the first thing about "how to pray"......even though I was brought up by my parents to be a catholic, going to catholic schools, etc, going to church every Sunday, etc., I didn't know the first thing about how to truly pray, straight from the Heart, the way the Native American people do, so beautifully.........When they asked me to pray, to say a few words, in the Ceremony, ( cause all people are included, and each one can speak) I really was embarrassed because I didn't KNOW HOW to pray ......I didn't know what to say, really..... I just said, the first thing that came in my mind, "Thank you for inviting me to this beautiful Sweat, it is my first time."..They understood, then, that I was just a baby...a "22 yr old baby", and were very kind to me.........The emotional, powerful, so eloquently spoken prayers from everyone I heard inside that Ceremony that day, taught me, that I really had a LONG ways to go, to learn how to pray like that.....It started me on the new Path in my life I have been on ever since........The woman running the Ceremony, spoke true, strong, and straight from her Heart, of using our Sacred Gifts wisely, and only for good, not to ever use them for evil...Speech, being a good example as one we can use to make everyone around us, and ourselves, feel better, by using it to speak kind words, reflecting love, compassion, humilty, respect, etc... or we can make all around us and ourselves feel really really bad, by using hateful speech, filled with envy, jealousy, spite, anger, etc..Our "words" are more powerful than we know....If used as weapons, they can hurt and wound someone worse than a bullet or an arrow, because those physical wounds we can recover from, but many times, the words we hear spoken to us, by someone who is using them as a weapon, can hurt us for life, or sometimes, even kill us, as we later think about the words, remembering them, they can cause us to get sick, to get so stressed, that we have a heart attack and die, or get cancer and die, or even commit suicide, if we feel badenough to not want to live any more , all because of "words" spoken the wrong , evil way.......... Words can also be used to heal, too... It is all how and what we speak, that matters the most....It is how we use the Sacred Gifts we have been given freely that matters the most, that makes all the difference in the World, and in our own personal lives.....This Ceremony , my very first one, was so moving to me, that it transformed me, and it set the course for my entire life..........Now with covid , things may be a lot different, and so, perhaps they do not allow any people they do not know to come, but back then, I did, and it changed my entire life.....It was when I was in my early 20's, almost 40 years ago.....I am sure if you have a real need to do so, and as I said, you are serious, and sincere, you can ask around to the many Native People that you will surely meet there, in AZ., to find out where a Sacred Ceremony like that may be taking place........You are , in "Indian Country"......You are VERY BLESSED to be there.......

@@lenakennedy5365 go to South America....to the Amazon..Seek it out there, do not just try it on your own, it is not for "getting high", it is a deep and powerful Journey, and must be taken with great care and caution, and reverence..and with guidance from a real shaman who knows how to work with the Spirits.....The shaman, after many years of training, knows all the protective Sacred Songs...very complex long songs...... that ward off evil spirits, and protect you on your Journey......On your own, unprotected, with no guidance, you could get hurt.....The Spirits have an easy entry into your mind when you are on the JOURNEY.....SO YOU MUST BE CAUTIOUS........Too many people are using it the wrong way, "for tripping" , as if it was LSD......But, it is for healing, only......The road is rough if you are not well prepared for the Journey....Just like Peyote.......Taken right, it can cure you of anything......but done wrong, in the wrong way, and disrespected, it can kick back hard and hurt you really, really badly.....If you only want to get high, smoke weed....it's safe....and does a lot to open your mind too....
