@@TerranosaurRex They SAY they can only pay on the 2nd, which is an extremely common excuse used by people looking to scam free lance workers online. Then they never pay you... and they get away with it because free lance internet work has very VERY little protections unless you require a signed contract you can take to court. The second most common scam is refusing to pay, they accept and agree with everything right up until you give it to them, then suddenly it's awful and they refuse to pay but keep the product. This highlights the benefits of using free lancer hosting sites because they do provide more protections against scammers but not everyone wants to use those for various reasons. Even if he was actually being honest about everything, if your marriage is on the verge of collapse because of a belated Christmas present, the present is NOT the issue nor the solution, especially a fitness and diet plan.

The Parrot story: I do pet sitting at 10 bucks a day per non caged pet with a 2-night minimum and I've done it for 10 years, but I also stayed in the clients home not in my own with the animals. That would make me charge more. Most of my clients are very low income and or single parent families with referrals for others that don't meet those criteria. Most of the time they'll give me more than that but really it pays for my transportation and food while I am staying there. I did a lot of sitting for family when I was first starting out and it if was over a holiday, I was given extra not because of the holiday but because transportation issues arise during holidays for me. The animals are a lot more comfortable in their own home. One of my client families has 3 small dogs and a rabbit and when I told the owner I was moving back after 2 years away she got really excited and booked me for a week for this summer. (I haven't even flown back yet.) The owner missed me while I was away because I took such great care of the animals including the rabbit which I had no experience taking care of before this family. What they are asking is ridiculous.

@Ms Temptation No, I don't couch surf, actually. I did grow up as the child of a struggling single parent, though. I saw a need and did what I could to help people in my community because I had the time to do it between work and school. It's rude to assume that just because I would do something nice like this , I did it because I couch surf. There is nothing wrong with couch surfing when you are struggling it's asking for help when you know you need it. I've actually provided a couch for others to surf on, too. It's just filling a need after first hand seeing the struggle.

@@ProudAuntieEST2016 They don't call it 'couch surfing' but the housesitting/pet sitting site I mentioned is essentially this. Typically people use it because they want to visit a particular location and are looking to save on accommodation while home owners want their pets comfortable at home and to avoid expensive boarding options. I think it's a great idea and am hoping to pet sit when I visit London later this year! It would save me a couple of thousand dollars on accommodations.

As a parrot owner, 100 dollars is nothing. Parrots can be extremely difficult to deal with, they are loud, messy and destructive. They are sometimes worse than small kids, you need to keep an eye on them non stop, especially outside the cage. Also, you cannot just let them fly free in the place they doesn't know and with people they doesn't know, that's safety hazard for everyone involved. Even in known space they can easily get hurt (like my parrot who managed to turn on stove few times already, chewed on cables and almost hang up on toy).

As a parrot owner, getting a low-paid and unexperienced person to look after your parrot would be a disaster. There's literally so many things that are toxic to parrots that the usual person wouldn't probably think of, such as teflon pans, any unnatural cleaning supplies, many plants, lots of foods, cooking, airfriers, airfresheners, the list goes on and on... And they get stressed from the tiniest things and can drop dead on the stop from a heart attack. So possibly no parties, guests, loud music... No open windows for sure. They can also bite and a bigger birb can affect some serious injuries when it's stressed out and the person is unexperienced, would OP pay for that? Would OP be sure that the rando wouldn't hurt the birb if it bit them, or just sue OP? Would OP pay for the damaged furniture that's probably gonna happen if the birb is big and stressed or bored? I'd probably die from anxiety if I left my birbs with a random unexperienced and low-paid stranger. I think that OP is rather just clueless than an (intentional) choosing beggar tho. If one of our neighbours spoke to me like that I can guarantee my husband’s reaction WOULD NOT be to tell me to be nicer to them! 😂 Also, I remember hearing a story similar to the house cleaning one. OP’s husband used mow their neighbour’s front garden along with their own because it was joined (semi-detached house), the neighbour never once said thank you or acknowledged this but the husband did it because he was a very kind person. Then one day he was in a nasty car accident and broke both his legs along with getting a major concussion. He was going to be alright just needed some major rest and time to recover. A few weeks went by and one day someone knocked very loudly at the front door and it was the neighbour. She was _demanding_ to know why her front lawn hadn’t been mowed in so long and was complaining about how long the grass had gotten. OP explained about the car accident so the neighbour had the audacity to demand OP to mow her lawn instead and even said they had to mow her back garden too as it wasn’t fair they only did the front. She didn’t ask if the husband was ok and obviously didn’t care about his wellbeing as the only thing she cared about was getting lawn mowed for free. When OP refused the neighbour then demanded they hire someone to mow her lawn until the husband was well enough to do it again. OP told the neighbour to f*** off and they stopped mowing her side of the lawn altogether so the neighbour had to do it herself then 😂

I learned not to trust doorbell buttons during my delivery boy days. My experience was that they are sometimes old and not working and despite what you see on TV, I consider it rude to knock AND ring. I could not always hear the doorbell from the stoop so I my habit was to always knock. In my retirement, my job was to photograph homes for insurance purposes. So even when I saw a Ring doorbell, I still knocked because of the motion sensor feature (even then nobody ever spoke to me through the Ring). Not one person ever told me knocking was rude.

As someone who owns birds (granted, they are parakeets, not cockatoos), most of the asks in the post make sense. Cockatoos need a lot of interaction and out of cage time. You never really know how they will get along with dogs and cats, but it can be stressful at the least and deadly at the worst. The most unreasonable thing here is the payment. I already have a decent knowledge of what a cockatoo would require and love birds in general, but you would have to pay WAY more to get someone to watch your bird. Especially because they can be loud, destructive, and very needy. Imagine a 2 year old child who can fly and has a powerful bite.

@@thatmouldyavocado9868 That is a very huge concern, yes.. Reading a birds body language is crucial and can take years to fully understand. On the final story, I think parrots are the pet that's in between the "needs a lot of extra work" and "needs a lot of extra work and can potentially kill you" tiers of pet difficulty. They're incredibly intelligent, need A LOT of social interaction, shit everywhere, and on top of everything, they have beaks that are basically organic cigar clippers. One of my SO's coworkers lost a tip of a finger because he was trying to trim a parrot's nails, and the parrot freaked out and bit him. You bet your ass that if I'm watching a parrot for the entirety of my Christmas vacation, sacrificing my time away from family and putting my digit safety at risk, I'm asking for $800 minimum.

Yeah, immediately when I heard BBL I tensed. It's got the highest mortality rate in all of cosmetic surgery due to the super high chance of the fat being injected into the butt travling inside the blood vessels then travelling to the heart. It causes the heart to immediately stop. Not even to mention the recovery, which for a surgery down there has a higher chance of infection.

Pet Boarding: 1) birds DO NOT like changes to their environment. It causes them a lot of stress. Every parrot I've owned had to get used to a vacuum cleaner. Some never did, and they climb to the farthest part of their cage and huddle there till it's done, making distressed noises despite our best attempts to train them that it's okay. . Moving Furniture around to clean under it stressed the bird. And every bird FREAKED OUT when we rearranged the living room to put up the Christmas tree. It took them days of screaming, agitated movements, and racing around before realizing that the Christmas tree didn't eat them in their sleep. Putting your bird in a completely new environment to fly around freely in would not make them happy. 2) large parrots are DESTRUCTIVE. They chew/destroy anything they can get their beaks on. We're talking furniture, window sills, baseboards, door jams. Google what a parrot can do to your house unless supervised 100% of the time they are out of their cage. 3) that kind of pay for a large parrot is insulting. They often need special care, a LOT of supervision, and socializing time, as well as a particular diet that may involve fresh fruits, nuts, and other dietary needs. Unless OP is providing a refrigerator full of fresh produce, the boarder will have to do a grocery run for that bird (seed/pellet diet is NOT healthy or enough for the bird's needs. 4) Large parrots are very smart (in the animal world) and mischief makers. Imagine if you will, a toddler who can fly, bites hard enough to sever your finger clean off, and can utterly destroy wooden objects in a matter of minutes. Worse, you are a stranger so the bird is unlikely to bond well and snuggle with you, and they are in a strange environment where they are stressed out, missing their human, and in desperate need of stress relief. This parrot lady is insane, and stupid and should not have a parrot at all.

Parrot story - the price is the least wrong thing about that post! A cockatoo is a big bird that can cause an adult human serious bodily harm. CB says that you don't need experience?! Yes, you do! How else would you be able to read bird body language to be able to tell that it's about to take off one of your fingers?! Not to mention, you would need to know that you can't cook with teflon pans, have ceiling fans, open doors often, or use strong-smelling chemical cleaners. Birds are not easy to care for, common household things can kill them very quickly. Not to mention, if a person has no cats/dogs ok, other pets can still be a huge issue, especially if the bird won't be in a cage. Rats can kill a bird through the bars of their own cage if it gets too close. Gosh, there are just so many red flags!
@Giganotus Жыл бұрын
Ok the cockatoo one actually seemed reasonable until the pay came up. The requirements seemed demanding to those unfamiliar with large parrots, but cockatoos really do NEED a lot of attention and care. They're extremely demanding animals. Which is why the pay was so abysmal. If you want someone to watch such a high demand animal you're gonna need to pay a lot more than $100
@rebeccajesse4604 Жыл бұрын
lol for me the pay wasn't the worst part. It was the "no experience needed" I mean that is a recipe for a dead bird and an expensive ER visit for the human. Also, they didn't mention the space/house requirements that would be needed = "no cooking with teflon, no candles or scent emitters, no ceiling fans, doors/cupboards that close safely and securely, no small items left out that could be eaten, nothing hanging from the ceiling" and many other things that can quickly kill or injure a bird. Plus no experience reading bird body language usually ends up with a bite or scratch, and with the larger parrots that usually needs a trip to the ER/Urgent care.

I have a bit of chonk that I'm working on losing, but thats my choice & only my choice. If my bf surprised me w/ a fitness plan, let alone as a late Xmas present, I'd be deeply hurt by that. Seriously, if you want to go places and do things, either pay for the cab or Uber or public transportation OR get your own d*** driver's license. I know it may be harder for some people to go through the necessary steps to get their license, but that's what public transportation is for. If a person is "too good" for public transportation and refuses to drive, I guess they are screwed then.

If you MUST leave (special pets take sacrifice-- I haven't been on vacation in my adult life lol) pay the crap out of people so they take the job seriously. It happens a horrifying amount of time. Pay them enough they feel obligated.
