For those curious about the silverware post, a "rainbow" cutlery set (if it isn't actually rainbow, which is a thing now) just means a super durable set of silverware that is usually 100+ years old. They are incredibly hard to find and will last you a lifetime and then some. Getting a set for $80 is a steal! I do Calligraphy but, although I'm not a professional by any means, I AM very good at it, including scroll style. Having tooted my own horn (which isn't something I'm comfortable with so, please bear with me), when my niece, who is absolutely awesome and also a great friend(we're close in age and kinda grew up together), asked if I could write hers and her husband's names and wedding date in Calligraphy for their table top souvenirs, which were small Lenox picture frames, in the classic Lenox creamy white, with real gold accent painting, I was thrilled! I showed her at least 5 different versions of the Calligraphy style I could do, she picked her favorite. I also showed her that the shrunken version would be printed on my high quality, natural/unbleached, creamy colored resumé paper. She loved it, and loved my test sample of how big the lettering and date numbers would look. I still have a few of those beautiful Lenox frames to this day. And I've never removed them from their homemade lacy cover bags. They came out so beautiful, even with using my computer to shrink down the original size so that each page of resumé paper could contain multiples so that there were enough for the couple of hundred souvenir Lenox frames. My niece, NOT a Bridezilla in the LEAST and I very nearly got into a heated argument over me not willing to take any money for the labor of my work. It was my pleasure. It made both her and her fiancé very happy because he loved the Calligraphy, too. It was part of my wedding gift to them because, as a Bride's Maid, I couldn't afford most of the bigger ticketed items on her gift registry. They've been married around 18 years now, and whenever we reminisce about her beautiful wedding, her hubs(AWESOME GUY!), ALWAYS brings up my Calligraphy. Warms my heart until SOMEONE starts cutting onions. Lol.

I lived in Hilo for about four years and moved away in 2019 to Oahu. For context Hilo is on the east side of the big island and gets about 120 inches of rain a year and has no sandy beaches and therefore isn’t a huge tourist destination. It’s not crazy to think that someone could find what she’s looking for in her price range. That area tends to attract a lot of hippies and naturalists and strangely someone like her would probably fit in pretty well in lower Puna which is about 45 min south of hilo. When I lived there I was about a half mile walk away from honolii, a popular surfing spot north of hilo and paid just $700 bucks for a two bedroom place. Didn’t have all the amenities she’s looking for but it was still a great deal. I got it through someone I knew though which is essentially the only way to get a deal like that.

I feel really confused how in the US some people expect others to pay for their wedding. Here in Brazil 🇧🇷 if you want to get married, you better pay for it! Nobody is gonna help you, aside from your parents, maybe.
@BersealiaDreamheart2 жыл бұрын
I wish more Americans would think in that way, too. This country’s reasoning and sanity is doomed.
@fdm21552 жыл бұрын
Most don't expect guests to chip in outrageous amounts to be in the wedding party or attend. That's why these stories are on Reddit. It is common for the best man to arrange a bachelor party but in most cases, that's a local event that's an elaborate guys' night out that might include crashing at a hotel. Not a flight, hotel and a bunch of expensive activities. Same for the bride's party. The bridal party may chip in to cover the bride/groom's participation it's usually not a lot of money.

US people are crazy with their wedding entitlements. In my country your family may help you with your wedding by buying gifts that will help furnish your kitchen, like pots, pans, plates etc. Sometimes, if an uncle can create wooden furniture (tables etc), he may create something for you, but it's not expected or mandatory.

Regarding the PS4 story, those types of CB’s can be disarmed pretty quickly by just asking why they (if they just lost their job, and also have hospital bills) would spend $150 on a Gaming console.

I do have to say that while the choosing beggar was wrong for haggling $350 is a bit of a ripoff for a 500 gb PS4. $275 is much more reasonable. The average price is about $250, so the seller was over charging a bit, especially since you can get a 1 tb ps4 slim new for the same price that the seller is asking for a used console.
@CMonKeY1352 жыл бұрын
Yeah, i didn't quite understand that price either. At that point I'd rather just buy one from Walmart.

I think the tinder one is a parody of the kind of shit women see on dating sites regularly. Like we get a long list of disqualifiers followed by “must have own place and car, must be willing to come to me” which is code for “I don’t have my own place or car and need you to do all the legwork for no gas money” 😂
