I like seeing more conversations about +R training in the horse community and I enjoyed this interview. I can really vouch for its effectiveness and hope more will take advantage of learning it (it's more involved than just giving treats, so it is good to learn it from someone like Kim). In addition to the benefits Kim spoke of (faster learning, more motivation), it also has an effect on the way I feel when training....it feels really positive to give a reward (as opposed to just taking a stimulus away as in -R), and therefore, my energy in training seems a lot more positive. I learned the +R from a friend of one of my mentors who is a well known animal trainer. Instead of a clicker, I've taught my horses intermediate and final bridge words...I find the words easier when riding when it might be challenging to use a clicker, but that's a matter of personal preference.

Thanks for your comments Pamela and I'm glad you enjoyed the interview. Yes Kim Wende is a great person to learn it from. I'm so glad you found someone qualified to teach you, and appreciate your insights on using bridge words as more convenient than a clicker. That's a really nice benefit you pointed out of how it makes it feel different for you to add a reward rather than remove a stimulus. Thanks for sharing.
