Being a kid in México, I discovered this song in a tv show that played daily the newest music videos along with some classics as the Beatles and such… R.E.M. turned out to be one of my favorite bands and influences in music and, as time passed, this song claimed a spot with the classics that played along when I first discovered it, for me, it keeps the same mystical aura every time I listen to it and reminds me of being that kid mesmerized in front of the tv dancing as Michael did on the screen.

This song is about a battle between a man with depression and his own conciseness. The man wants to kill himself yet the his concisence is trying to do everything in its willpower to stop the man from committing suicide. In the first phrases its saying "life is bigger" meaning its going to get better. Then he goes on to say that he is not he and the he will go farther lengths than the man himself. But then says "I have said to much" because he realizes that its to late and the man is going to kill himself. When it says losing my religion it means that that man is part of that conciseness and without that man he is not a whole. He says that's me in the corner because the man is not paying attention to him. Later on the conciseness thought he saw the man happy but then realizes its a dream. This battle goes on much longer. But in the end the conciseness gives up and decides to be there with the man when he kills himself by saying how he didn't do good enough: "But that was just a dream, try, cry, why, try That was just a dream, just a dream, just a dream Dream" And says dream because he is going to sleep and is not going to ever wake up.
