Story Time: The artist, Myra Harrow, had traveled far from her bustling city life to the ancient coast of Caelmoor, a place known only in whispers among artists and wanderers. Caelmoor’s weather was famous for its pure, endless white sky that cast a soft, timeless light over the rolling, mossy moors. It was a land of gentle drizzle, quietude, and an energy that felt both ancient and oddly alive. Artists claimed that the gods themselves resided in the deep folds of the land, and Myra had come to feel this presence, to capture it on canvas if she could. One day, after several weeks of painting the sweeping crags and endless moors, Myra decided to explore further inland, following an unmarked path that seemed almost to open up for her alone. She wandered until she reached a hidden valley where a small ethereal blue pond lay at the base of a massive stone head, half-buried in moss and fern. The head was nearly human but not quite-its elongated eyes held a knowing expression, and its mouth, closed and serene, suggested a wisdom beyond comprehension. The sight left Myra breathless. She couldn’t shake the sense that this place had been waiting for her. She set up her easel at the pond's edge under the gaze of the stone figure, feeling its silent, watchful presence fill her with a strange calm. The quiet drizzle misted her skin, and the white sky above seemed to hold them both in a timeless void, a world unmarked by hours or days. As she painted, time itself seemed to unravel. Hours melted into each other, and Myra, normally so attuned to the passing of the day, found herself lost in a trance. Her brushstrokes grew slower, more deliberate, until eventually, she was no longer painting at all but simply staring into the depths of the pond. The water, almost impossibly blue, reflected the white sky above with an ethereal clarity, as if it contained worlds within it, some known and others only sensed. Weeks passed, though she did not realize it. Myra no longer needed to sleep or eat; she was sustained by the very air around her, the subtle hum of the moors, and the silent energy of the stone figure, which seemed to glow faintly under the mist. Her body began to feel heavier, but it was not unpleasant. Her legs, once restless and aching to move, grew rooted to the earth, and her arms, once deft and light with her brush, now felt solid, immovable. The locals of Caelmoor, few in number and mostly elderly, had noticed her absence from the inns and village paths, but they merely shrugged. People went missing on the moors from time to time, and the land had always claimed those it wanted to keep. Some said she’d gone mad in pursuit of the moor gods; others whispered that she’d simply been swallowed by the mist, an offering accepted by the spirit of the land. As months blurred into years, Myra’s transformation was nearly complete. Her skin, once so warm and alive, had hardened into something cool and stony, her eyes forever locked on the sight of the blue pond and the white sky. Her face, serene and peaceful, now bore the same expression as the ancient stone head beside her. She had found, or perhaps been gifted, an eternal peace, a stillness that she’d sought all her life without ever knowing it. And yet, a question lingered in the air, in the gentle drizzle and the endless white above. Had she achieved a perfect happiness, free from the burdens of time and memory? Or had she, in her openness to the moor’s mysteries, been consumed by the ancient spirits that protected Caelmoor? The stone head, her silent companion, offered no answers. It gazed out over the valley as it had for countless ages, unmoved and unchanging. Only the faintest smile lingered on its face, a secret it would carry for eternity, as Myra, now part of the very landscape she’d come to paint, sat in perpetual stillness beside it, content yet unknowing. Some nights, under the glow of a hidden moon, travellers who dared venture into the valley claimed to see two stone faces in the mist, watching, eternally patient, as the white sky gazed down upon the timeless land of Caelmoor.
