@antonyduhamel11663 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, consequences for kids are usually doled out by their parents, but, as you can probably see, that kid's parent has no shame and no sense of anything other than "everything belongs to me because I said so!" **Should** there be consequences for that boy? Absolutely. **Were** there any? No, I would assume not. Apart from getting slapped, but the mom's 'spirited' defence of her offspring's 'rights' to the show probably took most of the sting out of even that.

God that last story makes me so mad I had a teacher in elementary school who had a prosthetic arm. I remember there was some really sick guy who had ALS. He was told by doctors he had only two more years to live. That was in the early 1960s. Well, he did the best he could in those two years, and when he eventually died he was recognized as one of the greatest scientists of all time. But then, the two years that started in the early 1960s ended in 2018 for Stephen Hawking. Sometimes the disabled people are the best.

my middle school art teacher only had one arm, and just to prove that that wasn't a hinderance, she built a pencil grip for her elbow and would draw these fantastic portraits with her missing arm.
@musicfan1893 жыл бұрын
I had a singing teacher once, who only had one arm too, and she was always super nice about it, except one time when she sort of forgot about it...😂 she was born with only a little nub at the elbow on one arm, instead of her lower arm and hand, and she had a super realistic looking prosthetic.. She always made a point to gently tell new students that it was there, because she would take it off to play the piano during the lesson.. Cut to about a year and a half after I started singing with her, and the choir I also attended needed a substitute pianist because the regular pianist called in sick.. my singing teacher volunteered, working though the same organisation, and with me being her last student for the day, finishing right before the choir session, it really wasn't a hassle... And this is where it went wrong... The choir was a children's choir, kids around 7-12 years old, I was 10... My singing teacher walked with me to the choir room, and most of the other kids were there, so I ran off to dump my stuff on a chair... A few minutes later, we're about ready to start, and I see my singing teacher sit down at the piano to get a feel for it before we start... Naturally, she takes her arm off, and then all hell breaks lose! She forgot to warn the kids, because we'd just come from my singing lesson where it was routine, and half the kids in the room saw and started screaming! When I realised what happened, I broke down laughing, and tried to tell them it was fine, but they didn't really listen until the choir teacher managed to get everyone's attention... We were a bit late with that choir lesson, sufficient to say... 😂 And my singing teacher felt horrible, and I apologized for laughing, but it was our inside joke for the next year until she was headhunted to a professional choir.. Whenever I came to my lesson with a story about dumb classmates or anything, she'd ask me, with a glint in her eye, if she should visit my class sometime and just pop her arm off... 🤣

Now the part where I prove I'm not a monster. I go out and train in back of my apartment complex in a tennis court using Ultrasabers. It puts on a show for anyone near by and if kids wanna join in, I have plenty to spare. I oversee them and make sure none of them are hurting each other and so far everything has been hunky dory. I love spending time with kids. It's like I get to be a role model for a while and I get to be everything I needed as a kid growing up.

Not to sound skeptical, but can you really do that thing with your eyes ? That sounds horribly painful and frankly, a little spooky.

@@manofironthathasntturnedcr9817 It's not comfortable. It takes a bit for my eye to set back in place and honestly I'm using my pinky. But you give me a pencil, knife or scissors and I can do it way better. Mostly cuz I make it look like it's going in way farther than it is. The knife is one thing but using the scissors is actually way more difficult cuz I'd be doing it to both eyes and that presents a problem. See, when I do this one side of my vision tilts and becomes darker until I lose sight. I still have one eye's sight though. It comes back as soon as I remove my finger or whatever but it takes a bit for everything to be right side up. I can feel how far is too far and I do it very carefully and have no desire to test or push it. Did that make sense?

We went on a family cruise to Mexico from Los Angeles in December 2016, and it was ten days. I still don't now the entirety of the story, but at the beginning of the cruise, the buffet had to be sanitized every day, and the workers had to wear gloves and serve us what we wanted. I heard there was an outbreak of something, but I honestly can't remember what it was. Honestly, that was the only thing that changed, and no shows were cancelled, nor were pools closed, and we could still get off the ship at the four ports we visited.

We had a gathering at Thanksgiving in 2016, I think it was. There were 17 of us. That evening, one of my niece's kids spiked a fever. By the next day 13 of the 17 people were sick with a norovirus. The only ones who didn't get sick were my family (who were sitting at a table removed from the main table because my husband was in a wheelchair) and my youngest great nephew. He was only a few months old and I had taken him away to cuddle him and see if I could get him to fall asleep (my daughter was over 30 and I liked cuddling babies - as long as they could be given back to someone else to take care of). Apparently, those who were going to get sick, got the bug during those few hours AT THE MAIN TABLE. Everyone at that table got sick. Grown ups, kids, friends. Only those of us who did not sit at that table escaped. I am so glad I took my great nephew away to another room. I took him out of his car seat/cradle and, once he was asleep, put him back in it, so he wasn't held by either parent during the seeming contagious phase. It was so weird.

That Norovirus story is almost unbelievable. I’ve had it and currently study it. An outbreak on board ship is just about the worst scenario one could be in. Norovirus is so infectious you only need about five viral particles to infect a person. It spreads super easily as when cleaning up, you’ll miss tiny droplets; and there WILL be droplets! You sit there letting your bowels evacuate only to have to suddenly turn round and projectile vomit. You don’t feel right for days after recovery because you’ve been so malnourished. How I didn’t infect my flat mate is beyond me.

The first story hits home. I got bad food poisoning the night before my family took a vacation to Florida to visit Disney world. I was not allowed to rest nor could I even complain about how much pain I was in. I was to suffer in silence as my parents forced me to attend several events prior to walking through the scorching hot Disney word park as I was trying to not puke my brains out for the tenth time that morning. It’s not like I couldn’t have been left in our hotel. I was 13 at the time.

I had a somewhat similar experience to the first story, except I was the sick kid. I had come down with some sort of illness right before I was supposed to go on a camping trip with my Scout troop. I had told my mother that I wasn't feeling well, but she wouldn't believe me, saying that I was just making it up as an excuse to stay home and play video games. For the entire weekend, I was so sick, I tried to stay in my tent, curled up inside my sleeping bag, because I had fever chills. But everyone was trying to get me out of the tent to do activities (especially going into the nearby town to march in a parade made up of multiple Scout troops), despite me telling them I was in no condition to do so. By Sunday, I was puking my guts out. No one had the bright idea to call my parents to tell then I really was sick. In hindsight, my mother does regret making me go when I really was sick, but in all fairness, even if I was sick, I would have been playing video games anyway. After all, what else would you do if you were sick? It's not like you have control of your immune system to make it work harder to fight off infections. Plus, I had just gotten my hands on a copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and I was really wanting to play it, you know? The only other time I got sick during a camping trip with the Scouts (I felt fine Friday evening, but by the middle of the night, I was shivering really badly due to fever chills again), they called my parents Saturday morning--albeit reluctantly, for reasons I still cannot explain--and my Dad came to pick me up and take me home.

I was also on a cruise that had a norovirus outback (happened in 2016). Nearly the entire ship of about 2,000 got the virus. I myself was able to escape the virus even though my entire family got it, but I instead suffered terrible motion sickness. The cabins all smelt like vomit which made you want to be sick yourself. My mum was kept up for multiple nights in fear that my grandmother would die from it because it hit her so bad. The cruise ship company handled it atrociousley with no compensation or any real attempt to control the virus, plus other terrible things that weren't even virus related. Felt like being in a hell that you couldnt escape from for days.
Geez! Story 1. I cruised on Feb, took every single precaution (was up to date on booster, wore a mask all the time indoors, hand sanitised etc) and still got Covid two days before the end of my cruise. I spent most of my time on the outdoor deck spaces, didn’t see any shows. I slipped up once on a shore tour with the mask wearing and three days later I tested positive. I’d taken four test kits with me so it was randomly taking them as my dad almost died of RSV last year (‘22) and we’re paranoid about illness coming in. The only symptom I had was a headache and a ‘I can feel I have a throat as a body part’. I didn’t become sick and I stayed in my room. Once I got home, I stayed in my room, only leaving it once a day to use the shower that no one else used. No one got sick from me.

Just going to put this one out there. Ive been on a ship that had had a noro-viruses out break, both the week i was on, and another that was the week after. The one where we missed the outbreak, it had happened on the cruise before ours, boarding had been delayed by 3 hours so that the whole ship could be sanitized. Apparently something similar to OP's story happened and everyone was sick. The second time I seen an outbreak was much better. The whole ship went into a semi lock down setup. You could still move around the ship, and all the shows were still on, but there was no "self serve" anywhere. As a gest you were only to touch your own plate and cup everything else was brought or handed to you by staff. There were people in the elevators and stairs to clean after you passed, and the public washrooms were marked as "emergency only please". This might sound extreme but the outbreak stoped within 2 days. No one else got sick. The total amount of people on board 2500. Number that got sick, 15.
