Story 3- 1. Before OP leaves, she should buy itching powder, 2. She should spread it _everywhere_ she can manage that she knows his parents will specifically be doing it on, especially her bed, 3. Try to time it so she leaves right after she does step 2 so that she's long gone by the time her parents actually are affected or realize what happened. Step 4. Laugh in triumph. Alternate plan, if she has a huge amount of money and wants to do something completely insane. Buy a fox, and leave it in the house while they're out with some food and free reign of the house, and the fox will make her point for her, _very_ effectively. Later, retrieve it once the parents come home and reward it with treats, then probably give it to a rescue. Rslash didnt give a good reply here or good advice. Notice that the "kid" is actually 19 years old, a full fledged adult. At that point, anything the parents bought and resides in their home belongs to the parents, not the kid. If she wants her own stuff and her own privacy, then she better be the adult she is and move out. What kids dont get is sometimes parents will purposely piss off their kids to get them out of the house and move on with their lives. And kids get mad because they wanna remain kids and continue to shirk off adult responsibility. Parents who fail to launch their kids out of their home are deemed failures at life by society.

i had a similar experience to the parents screwing in their kids room. my dad was down on his luck after he had a fight with his girlfriend. my younger sister let him stay at her house while he sorted himself out. anyways, she comes home one day to find all the house doors locked (after she gave him the keys and asked him to make a copy). she went around to the side to tap on the bedroom window to get his attention, and he was in there having sex with his girlfriend on her bed with the windows wide open. who the hell takes advantage of their kids kindness like that?? the way he treated my sister was the last straw and i haven't spoken to him since. probably never will.

It's happened to me multiple times in bars or during shopping and the very apologetic staff always offered me to show me new rules and would've explained them to me if asked for. Not once did I think to let my frustration out on them because they're not the ones making the rules and don't deserve to be put through a rant on something the didn't make and can't control. To everyone who has someone they know/are related to that has asthma and they wear a mask for x hours at a time and do just fine then awesome good for them. I truly am glad to hear that there are people with mild enough asthma that they don't have issues cuz having moderate to sever asthma sucks. But please keep in mind that not everybody's asthma is the same. Many people have moderate or severe asthma and masking for long periods of time truly do cause issues and even lead to asthma attacks. Does that mean you get to be rude and demand you get a medical exemption with no proof. Nope not at all. The lady in the story was waaay out of line. But to sit there and say that everyone with asthma should be able to mask with zero issues just because one person can is the same as saying a basketball player should be able to play football or baseball with no issues because all 3 are sports that use a ball. Everybody's asthma is different its severity, what triggers are worse than others, and how it overall affects the person who has it. TLDR: Don't compare everyone with asthma to the one person you know who has it everyone's asthma is different. Asthma still isn't an excuse to be rude about wearing a mask.

This. And someone might not have asthma but have some other medical condition that precludes masks. It's a common thing nowadays to send pictures/texts of your personal - private - medical information? Is that really common place? I can see why OP's parents feel highly insulted and don't want to show the results anyway; perhaps because it doesn't matter what I as the family member say: If I said I tested positive, you would believe me without one second of hesitation and shut me out of your life until you got PROOF I was better. Even if I lied to you and was joking, and then I would be the asshole for lying to you or making a joke. But I have to jump through hoops to prove to my own child that I am negative? There is literally NO TRUST at all? From an era where Verbal Trust - Familial Trust - and just common place Mutual Trust were major factors of life? If the parents had done anything in the past to break Familial Trust, it becomes a bit more reasonable. But if OP's parents have been trustworthy, why not just give them that benefit of the doubt? It isn't entitled to deny showing my child MY MEDICAL INFORMATION. Regardless. That's like saying "I demand to see the Doctor's notes to PROVE you don't have CANCER!" When I go to get a Prostate Exam. Or, "I demand to see the paperwork of your Physical Check Up to believe you are HEALTHY!" It's just....WRONG. I find it funny that the parents that are members of the branch Covidiens believe that her parents are the entitled ones. I mean yeah keep your kids safe but don't expect people to bend over backwards at every request
@live_unafraid472 жыл бұрын
I agree, plus the 2 year old is probably the safest from covid of all of them. (Seriously a 2 year old has a better chance of severe side effects from a vaccine than even getting covid) Do what you will, but don't expect everyone to bow to your wishes.
@DeathProductions2002 жыл бұрын
Okay, but as a counter, it could be a situation where one of them is high risk and didn't mention it in the story. In this specific case it isnt relevant to know if they're high risk or not.

Honestly, if my parents were being obnoxious and sleeping around the house, I'd stand there and pretend to watch to creepy them out. I'd have earbuds so I couldn't hear them and not wear my glasses so I couldn't see them ,but just me standing there and whine is likely to kill the mood. If that didn't work, I start throwing things at them. Water, popcorn, toys. Complain about everything and anything that was gross everywhere that wasn't their own room. "This is a public space" "This is MY room" Put on a move with babies or something very mood killing. I'm a petty bastard is all I'm saying.

Story 2: your child will get sick and could die. you cannot keep your child safe, the best you can do is risk management A risk of below 1 in 10000 is generally considered negligible

At first I thought the baby cousin at least had her birthday near OP's...but NOPE! She does that to everybody, and her mommy still insists people say it's her birthday! That 4yo is DANGEROUSLY similar to Eileen the Birthday Girl, a SUPERVILLAIN from WordGirl, and educational superhero cartoon!

Second story was depressing. Families fighting due to media caused psychosis due to blatant lying.

And the last one. No one should give up their freedoms due to accommodating the fear of others. "I was just following orders/guidelines/law" is not a valid excuse once the order/guideline/law itself is illegal (medical experiment). Masks don't work. I can see that rSlash is somewhat liberal, but he'll grow out of it.
@paulsmith91982 жыл бұрын
Yes, I feel we'll be seeing more of these types of posts now. "My mother refused to strip down, burn all of her clothes and put on a full biohazard suit when she came to visit me. How inconsiderate!! I could die!!!!!!!!!".
@Hartie952 жыл бұрын
Ok, where is the proof that masks do not work? Why would doctors wear them during actions like operations, if they didn't work? Do you actually want your doctor doing an operation without a mask on, because of some half truth about them not working, because of people misunderstanding how masks work? They mostly protect others from the fluids of the wearer, while protecting the wearer only a bit by itself.
@chase15a2 жыл бұрын
@hartie95 bro....an operating room is sterile for a reason....you are oftentimes CUT OPEN, and nosocomial (hospital borne) infections are high. This is like comparing apples to oranges; you can come up with a better comparison. This "pick a tribe" thing has got to stop. A freedom of information request in England and Wales from just recently showed some pretty alarming numbers of how low covid mortality alone is. Everyone, can we please return to normalcy?
@Hartie952 жыл бұрын
@@chase15a exactly because of the properties of an operation room its a good comparison to show that masks work. If they wouldn't work, they couldn't be used there.

I share a birthday with two younger cousins. Sometimes we had a joint party, but usually we had our own parties at our own homes and family made the circuit to visit all of us. I can't imagine someone throwing a temper tantrum because the birthday person was rightfully the center of attention.

If you/your kid has asthma, isnt that all the more reason to wear a mask? Like, asthma makes getting covid way more dangerous. Better to have a harder time breathing for a few hours while you shop than to have a horrible time breathing for weeks because you got covid, right?
@kodahansen80802 жыл бұрын
No, it makes it hard enough to breathe without a mask restricting your air flow. Masks are only effective if the person wearing one is sick. If I'm not sick I don't need a mask, and wearing one won't help me not get Covid since the mouth/nose is not the only entrance for Covid.
@tiredman992 жыл бұрын
Asthma also makes it harder to breathe when wearing a mask. So it's a crapshoot either way

True friendships between unrelated adults and kids are rare, so I was relieved to see OP is still able to hang out despite the daughter not being allowed. I was scared for a second because you've gotta hit it off really well to have such a gap in age and still enjoy eachother's presence enough to be friends. The daughter was lucky to find someone like OP. It would've sucked to lose a friend like that!

Story 2- Overprotective much? Unless your 2 year old has serious health issues your parents are waaayyy more likely to be harmed by your kid catching covid than your parents harming your kids by catching covid.
@melodyharpole82722 жыл бұрын
Yep, notice how Opie absolutely loves the vaccine but also seems to admit the vaccine doesn't stop transmission. This new covid cults are absolutely insane.
@afuzzycreature83872 жыл бұрын
I think the parents are frustrated with covid and taking it out on their adult kids. I have no problem with their behaviors in public and measures of their own risk. They don't respect their kids choices though. I think the kids are overprotective but this is the wrong way to go about it.
@afuzzycreature83872 жыл бұрын
So I'm with the parents most of the way there. I think the parents are choosing this to vent their frustration in the wrong way.

For the couch story, I think it's worse than OP's mom using the couch as a power play to mark her territory as a show of dominance over OP (or however that went). OP's mom is probably just not considering OP at all. Not even so much as a "Oh, who cares," but rather OP doesn't even _enter_ her mind during, much less cross it.
@BorninVirginia2 жыл бұрын
2nd story: your parents are getting old and that may have been your chance to see them, but hey at least you don't have covid. I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion here but you really just asked your parents to show their papers or they ain't coming in.
@mattclose54902 жыл бұрын
Yeah, OP sounds ridiculous here. I can't imagine treating my family that way or having that much distrust in my own parents that I make them show their papers. Is op that paranoid about other diseases that statistically are more dangerous to them? I don't think op actually hated treating them this way. I'd bet op secretly loves the feeling of power and moral superiority it gives them. Secondly, your child won't be little forever, and older parents have a way of getting old and eventually will no longer be with us. Their decision to choose covid paranoia will probably sadly continue and opportunities for op's family to be together will diminish by the day.

Story 2 is very sad. It is not about entiteledment from the grandparents side it is about how unreasonably scared everyone became of Covid. They probably realize now and if they dont it is even more tragic
@Lexie135792 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of people that would be uncomfortable with normalizing the requiring of medical information including records for a simple thing like visiting family. Why are the parents entitled to the test results? And honestly why didn’t they just believe them. If they were so strict about test results then the parents should have informed the grandparents about the showing proof thing.

Just to give my two cents as a medical student and also friend to someone who has had asthma since age 4, I'm not sure why people use asthma as an excuse to not wear a mask. If anything, it should be a reason to be more cautious and wear it. Covid is a respiratory infection that has a lot to do with inflammation, which means that if someone with asthma contracts it, the consequences will most likely be bad. My friend has built up a resistance to most bronchodilators and ICS, and every time we have met outside they have worn the mask. My friend is also very overweight (gets easily fatigued and usually has shortness of breath even when walking, so it's very difficult to lose and avoid gaining weight), and easily short of breath, and wearing a mask has never been an issue.

For the, i believe, second story. Isn't forcing someone to show medical stuff a violation of hipa or something? I get why they tried, but unless the child is immunocompromised the child will be nearly perfectly fine. Covid is deadlier for an individual the older they get. So the parents should have been cowering in their boots about this virus, not you
@Corathor2 жыл бұрын
The second story, the parents DEFINITELY didn't take the PCR tests. Especially with how indignant they got.
@andrewnagel91492 жыл бұрын
Last story, it's a violation of HIPPA and ADA to ask for papers to show disability. You have to just take the person's word.

I remember a stupid solution to a similar problem. The question was what do you do when you get caught playing with your flute solo while watching prn. Answer: Just continue because it's only natural to do that where you sleep in. But, the person watching will be on the wrong because he is watching you do it. So my bad advice is before your parents make love where you sleep, just time that your playing solo. Because the ball is on them, either they go out or they will be making love because your playing solo. It is their choice.

Story 2: You're absolutely giving the parents too much credit. They either didn't test or tested positive and thought that they'd get their way because they made the trip. Last story: It's a shame the poster on Next Door didn't leave a name. Talk about behavior that should be reported to her husbands CO, especially since it seems he was bad as she.

2nd Story: As an european, the parents seemed fine! Just a few years back, all of us would have found it outlandish if we had to share our medical history with family in order to met one another. So, I understand the parents! If you don't want me visiting if I don't do something I don't want to, then I don't visit. That doesn't make OP wrong though. It is her right to demand anything and everything from people who want to enter their home. If the people don't want to respect their rules, they can stay outside. So, in my opinion, nobody is in the wrong. But sadly their relationship is very likely to suffer.

The second story is really entitled on the mother's part, not the grandmother. While they may have a special circumstance for the kid, majority of the time kids are not at risk. People like that just make me mad.

It's their kid and they don't want to take unecessary risks. Also your comment is just incorrect, there are risks even for young people. Especially infants are generally quite vulnerable to disease, along with the elderly. Sharing a test result is super easy. Strongly disagree with your comment. They "make you mad" eh....you need to re evaluate a few things.
@lmj2k2 жыл бұрын
There’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that the grandparents actually got a COVID test. If they tested positive, they’d have said so and stayed away. They’re resisting because they’re being asked to provide the actual results for the test they said they did, and they’d rather be indignant rather than admit they lied. And every COVID test I’ve ever had, the results are available electronically.
