Actually both Grey and Gray are considered perfectly valid and acceptable spellings of the word. Typically Gray is used more often in American publications while Grey is used more often in British publications, however there are examples of both Greye and Graye(the old versions) being used dating all the way back to the 14th century.

It's stupid and wouldn't make a lick of difference, but if I myself am not being stupid nor remembering this incorrectly then all objects placed in a volume of water displace it, albeit slightly and highly dependent on the object's mass in relation to the amount of water. I don't think servers like when plates are stacked, actually. At least not in Europe. Each server has their own way of carrying plates. Quite often it is easier for them to stack them themselves. I've noticed they do it in more of a sun shape on their palm rather than one on top of the other, I think it makes it easier to balance them on one hand whilst grabbing something else in the other. Just tidy up but leave the plates for the server to decide how to deal with them.

I’ve heard elsewhere that some servers actually don’t like customers stacking things themselves because of personal preferences when handling them and/or customers ‘doing it wrong’. It ends up feeling like a ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ scenario.
