We’re at the grand Hotel in Disney World a couple of decades ago and a gentleman bumps Into my chair as his party is being seated. I turn to give him more room and look up and see Robert Conrad apologizing to me. Our whole table recognizes him immediately but we all just say good evening. During the dinner our waiter comes over and whispers: do you know who that is? We say whats he famous for? The waiter replies he’s the guy on the energizer battery commercial as we we try not to laugh. As we get up to leave Mr. Conrad looks over to our party and says-so that was the highlight of my career for that guy Huh? And we all shared a good laugh over that. One of my favorite actors and thanks again Rob for this wonderful tribute. They just don’t make them like this anymore.

I am not in a hurry to name a "favourite" actor in this genre but will mention my liking for Stuart Whitman, for his ability across a wide range of roles, including comedy (Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines") and war (The Longest Day). His Western series "Cimarron Strip" was a "pleaser" back in the day, as was his co-starring role with John Wayne in "The Comancheros". Thank goodness for DVDs!!

Lonely are the brave was one the best western movies that truly showed the changes that took place in great open ranges in the west. The emotions portrayed in the film really grabs the the viewer and gets one invested from start to finish. All the great ones are gone and the new crop cannot hold a candle to any of them. I miss what the industry used to be.

The passing of any of our favorite stars is always a sad thing, but one thing is for sure, they will live forever in the movies and television shows they made. Watching old Hopalong Cassidy movies, or John Wayne, or Audie Murphy movies, makes it like they’re still here, and like it’s Saturday afternoon at a double feature at the Texas Theater, where we could get a large Coke and large bag of popcorn for a total of 25 cents. Yes, they’re gone from our physical world, but they play on forever on the silver screen.

How could we ever choose ? So many of these amazingly talented people Rob ! Sadly, we are loosing so many of the greats of their craft ! Irreplaceable talent ! Writers, directors, and actors alike ! This was an era when men were men, and women were women ! And by that I mean men were rugged, and women, ( most of, at least ) were well treated like ladies ! I think we have lost so much Rob ! Not one specific actor, or director, but an era is quickly fading away ! There might be the rare one or two Kostner style Westerns, ( which I love by the way ) or Robert DuVall pictures, but the era of the tough guy, White Hat, Black Hat Westerns are sadly riding off into the sunset ! That is exactly why we need your work Rob ! Keeping their memory alive ! Thank you so much for what you do !
