Actually it wasn't. Scholl composed it from pre-existing variants of a song. Then other took their own spin on it.

The march was composed in the first half of XVIII century by an an anonymous Hungarian composer. It' title refers to Ferenc Rakoczi, the leader of an anti-Habsburg insurrection in Hungary in the beginning of the century. Later on numerous artists elaborated their arrangements of this tune; this one, made really by Berlioz in 1846, is most famous.
