The real shame about R.L. is that just as he was starting to get widely noticed and making some money, his health started to fail him. Well, that's the Blues, I guess. Credit to Fat Possum Records for sticking with him and making him more widely known.

@@markgriffin9699 , we can only hope so. I had a shaking my head moment recently, talking to a twenty-something kid who played a couple of songs on guitar at a memorial recently. I asked him who his favorite guitar players were, predictably he said John Mayer, Clapton, Joe Bonamassa and Stevie Ray Vaughan. My response to him was that "you're missing about 50 years of music prior to those guys!". This kid had never even heard of Bo Diddley! Or Brownie McGhee, or Freddy King and Albert King....much less Blind Willie Johnson, Fred McDowell, Tampa Red and so on.

I will never forget the first time I heard R L Burnside. I went to our local Fred Meyers store to drop off some shoes for repair. I heard this blues singer on the radio, and a young man of about twenty working there told me, "That's R L Burnside. I can't believe you've never heard of him. He's a famous blues singer." This was about ten years ago, and I never forgot him. That is pure, raw, beautiful talent!!!

I was introduced to RL's music back in the early 2000's with Come On In. I bought Wish I Was in Heaven Sitting Down, then thought I lost that CD, so I bought another one. Turns out I lent it out and actually got it back again(that's rare) now I have 2 Heaven CD's.

The drummer is so cool - they don't need a bass player! R L's grandson I hear.

The volume of the band hides the dynamics of Burnside's vocal. Other than that, it's great.
