The real shame about R.L. is that just as he was starting to get widely noticed and making some money, his health started to fail him. Well, that's the Blues, I guess. Credit to Fat Possum Records for sticking with him and making him more widely known.

I saw him at the Horseshoe Toronto around 93 maybe ,taped it. but then lost the fucking tape somehow in a move! So glad I was able to see him and relive that show several times before I lost it . Awesome show with full band including his son too.Me and my buddy went backstage and we were smoking joints with him, he was so cool .

@@markgriffin9699 , we can only hope so. I had a shaking my head moment recently, talking to a twenty-something kid who played a couple of songs on guitar at a memorial recently. I asked him who his favorite guitar players were, predictably he said John Mayer, Clapton, Joe Bonamassa and Stevie Ray Vaughan. My response to him was that "you're missing about 50 years of music prior to those guys!". This kid had never even heard of Bo Diddley! Or Brownie McGhee, or Freddy King and Albert King....much less Blind Willie Johnson, Fred McDowell, Tampa Red and so on.

I will never forget the first time I heard R L Burnside. I went to our local Fred Meyers store to drop off some shoes for repair. I heard this blues singer on the radio, and a young man of about twenty working there told me, "That's R L Burnside. I can't believe you've never heard of him. He's a famous blues singer." This was about ten years ago, and I never forgot him. That is pure, raw, beautiful talent!!!

Great group of guys ! Neal Vitullo, Dave Howard, Steve Bigelow, and Michael LaBelle. I was a doorman at the Sea Note in Hull MA. Loved watching these guys perform together, and when Dave Howard had his band the High Rollers; and when he fronted for Roomful of Blues. Im glad they got back together. I got to see them last summer in Plymouth at this same place, thanks to my friend John Hall.

I love this redition of rollin and tumblin, and I love north hill country blues. I've noticed in all my favourite music, my most favourite is all very repetitive, more like rhythms than melodies. Maybe it's the cave man in me, but it's beautifully simple and simply beautiful.

If you know his story, we are lucky we heard that shout at all. He was a sharecropper in a house with a dirt floor and couldn't afford a guitar for a while. Recorded his first songs on a borrowed guitar when he was "discovered" by a musicologist in 1977.

Somewhere along the way you'll bump into JJ Cale and then you'll be pleased to learn about artists like Paul Benjamin and Jontavious Willis who are just knocking it out of the park and you can go see live TODAY (2022)! I saw both of them in a living room last night.

It's kind of sad thinking about how much respect this guy had in Europe while he was generally unknown throughout his career in his home country, along with the other Hill Country Blues guys. It would have been awesome to see this...three legit Hill Country musicians. I think they're even neighbors!

I was lucky enough to see RL 'live' in a small club in Glasgow, Scotland in 1999, incredible talent with brilliant backing from Cedric and Kenny. No earthly reason why RL shouldn't be mentioned alongside John Lee Hooker, et al as one of the blues greats.

I was introduced to RL's music back in the early 2000's with Come On In. I bought Wish I Was in Heaven Sitting Down, then thought I lost that CD, so I bought another one. Turns out I lent it out and actually got it back again(that's rare) now I have 2 Heaven CD's.
