Ah yes, Fred is such a smart person. Because Roy wouldn't be able to find a job again, because he would be either 1. Dead. 2. Swimming in money from the sue he would probably made to the company for putting his life in danger. In either case, Fred would had drag the company into the ground with either of those choices. Good thing that Roy outplayed that POS of a boss
@TnT_F0X4 жыл бұрын
I remember my boss asking why I A. Drop the mixing bowl to the ground and B. TURN IT OFF!!! Before using my arm to scrape the sides of a half-mixed batch of creme. He does it idle and half dropped no problem. I said No thanks I value my arm, but luckily I didn't work for a Fred, just a guy who thinks the Mixers from the 30's that occasionally jerk and move when cooling/powering off and can turn your arm into strawberry jelly cant hurt him if he is 'careful'. Note half dropped there is a 2 inch gap between the bowl and paddle, but if you got your arm stuck your bones would be dust. Fully dropped there is a 6 inch gap, so if you got caught it would break something but not ruin your arm... I still turned it off because... I value my arm? But yeah, NEVER do anything you think is dangerous because of a supervisor, even if they know to do the Job they do not do it every day and therefore are not one with the machine... like Roy.

@@TnT_F0X I wish more operators had this method of thinking because in my experience working with rides, a lot of younger machine operators just have no respect for what they are in control of. I've lost count of how many times I've had to remind ride operators that even though a ride may be a shitty little kids carousel, it will not stop for you if you get in its way. I came very close to giving one operator a very public beating after I came very close to running him down with a roller coaster train. For some inexplicable reason he decided to jump across the track just as I pressed the dispatch button. Luckily for him, there is a roughly 1 second delay on this ride between pressing the button and the train starting to move, this gave me enough time to see the idiot and smack the emergency stop through the control panel......... many swear words were directed at his location by me and my fellow engineer.

Used to work at a DOE research lab as an electrician. Many people had accumulated large amounts of PTO. Management instituted a new rule limiting the amount of hours you could have. However, we worked under a union contract and politely told them to pound sand. Before this I had the same job at a cereal factory. Salaried employees could accumulate vacation. My direct supervisor was under constant stress from upper management and decided to retire early. He went on a three month vacation. He returned to find they had hired his replacement and offered to train him during his last 2 weeks. They told him no and not to talk to him. He proceeded to feed papers containing his accumulated notes on the job into a wastebasket while chuckling (his name was Chuck) maniacally! Served them right! His replacement was dumb as a box of rocks.

Wait, wait, wait a minute here. This dude is complaining that he only got five whole hours of sleep? I've worked double plus (18 even 20 hours) six days a week driving a wrecker. Five hours and he can't survive working in a grocery store? Damn. I haven't slept more than 5 hours a night in 20 years. Well, except for those few times I had general anesthesia for surgery.

I find it funny how people who use the excuse I can't do it because I have "" back issues"" whenever it comes to doing actual hard manual labor. And when they don't technically have any real " back relates issues" I find it funny because I actually have back related issues my back related issues are that I have scoliosis " curvature of the spine" for the uneducated meaning my body is always in constant pain and yet I can do all sorts of manual labor like getting on my hands and knees scrubbing floor lifting heavy equipment (I'm a dishwasher) at the local restaurant..
@noxumbrose65854 жыл бұрын
Do you have any suggestions for dealing with the pain? I have scoliosis as well, and I used to work for Panera and loved doing the baking, but lifting the baking sheets above my head for hours put me in so much increased pain I was in tears uncontrollably and if I'd pushed it any further I wouldn't have been able to even drive the 5 minutes home. According to the x-rays I have, it's mild scoliosis, though several doctors suspect that I may have other underlying issues... Still, I'd like any advice I can get. Edit for typo

I get the whole protest thing, this situation sucks I know. Yet....people are dead. People who didn't have to die died because of a virus that we still don't understand fully yet. I think what makes me upset is how they want hairdressers and bars open but still, people are dead and not coming back. I think its extremely disrespectful to those who have lost family and friends but none of these protesters seem to care. That's why they don't have an ounce of support from me as it just seems more like complaining. But whatever they can do whatever they want but that's I feel about it.
@karlstucki8794 жыл бұрын
I've seen those clips with people talking about hairdressers and bars, but i can't help but wonder if they're being taken out of context to make them look bad. Like, what if they're talking about being willing to use these services, but not being able to because of the government? Suddenly it's not them being selfish, but wanting to support these businesses. And, while i agree that the pandemic is killing people, recessions kill people too. At what point does the cure become worse than the disease? Will we ever even know? I'm not necessarily saying i agree with all the protesters, but i think oversimplifying the situation does a great disservice to everyone.
@VelkanAngels4 жыл бұрын
People disagree on what's worse. My lung function is impaired and I'm in overall bad health, so apparently I'm one of the people who'd be at risk of dying if I got infected. That does NOT automatically mean I care more about my own safety from this one particular thing, than the vast majority of the world's quality of life and safety from other things. One might say that would be selfish of me. After all, does it make more sense for 90% of the population to stay inside to protect 10%, or for 10% to stay inside to protect themselves? It's not as simple as "either you care about people and want to stay locked down indefinitely while people's lives and livelihoods are falling apart, or you're a selfish jerk".
@idontevenknow97584 жыл бұрын
@@karlstucki879 Hey that is a very valid point and yes I agree small businesses are at high risk of closing for good which can have ripple effects on the economy. Maybe this is just what I saw because there were people with guns when they had the protests on TV and stuff like that. That definitely alarmed me as too why they would do that. I think maybe if they toned that down and changed a few signs maybe people will be more sympathetic. You know focus on the businesses to get some government relief or something that can help them. I can totally see that there are those there who want to support businesses and maybe a few bad apples that make them look bad.
@idontevenknow97584 жыл бұрын
@@VelkanAngels Hey, I wish the best for you and your health. I do hope things get better soon. I would rather see more people survive then die. Your not selfish at all and you have to do what you have to do, there is no shame in that or your opinion. I don't expect everyone to agree with me on anything as does you because we will have various thoughts on how to approach the topic. I am one those people that if I could protect someone else and I am able-boded I will try my best. I do feel the protesters maybe if their intentions are good, I'm a little put off by the use of guns as a means of intimidation from what it looks like on the news. I just think if they want their voices heard there is a better way of going it peacefully.
@karlstucki8794 жыл бұрын
@@idontevenknow9758 That goes for every group. I'm not a big fan of the open carry stuff either, even if they do have the right to do it, it definitely looks aggressive. Still, so far i haven't heard of any shootings, so credit where credit is due. It's not how I'd do it, but if it's not illegal, power to them. I really just wish this whole thing wasn't politicized to the degree it is. Can't help but feel we could have some really productive discourse if people listened to each other, and worked together to address all these concerns.

In Canada (I can't speak for other places) we have a legal right to a safe workplace, and a legal responsibility to refuse unsafe work. If your boss insists on you doing something unsafe at work, you may (and must) refuse to do it. If the manager won't back down, make threats of disciplinary action, firing, etc. we can report the manager and they will be subject to personal fines as well as those for the business. These fines are generally quite large even for first infractions. My old employer got one of those fines and it was over $200k at that time (my guess would make it closer to $500k now). And yet, they still tried multiple times to get me, and others, to do unsafe work. We knew enough to refuse and the business knew enough that they would be fined even more if any of us reported it so they backed down (though I did a few times have to threaten to report). This approach to employee safety (and lack thereof) is a big part of the reason that that place is my former employer. They treated their staff like garbage so I moved on to somewhere better. Apparently, when others learned that I left they realized that they too could go somewhere else. There was a small exodus after that, with most of the best-qualified and hardest-working staff following me (also a hard-working, well-qualified person) out the door.

Lathes can be shockingly, horiffically dangerous machines. They have an insane amount of torque, and if a piece of you happens to get in the way the thing won't even slow down. There are lathe accidents where people have gotten pulled in to the machine and there isn't much recognisably human left. I'd say it's one or two steps below getting pulled in to a jet airline turbofan engine. Never put anything in or near them while they're running.
