For the histograms section, make sure you click the square on the top right of the plots pane so that it takes up the entire right side. If the plots pane doesn't cover the pane right above it, it will be too short to contain all 3 graphs in the section where you plot 3 graphs, all on top of one another, and you'll get an error message saying "figure margins too large".

Course Files are renamed, all the prefixes R_01 etc were removed from every file name. See the description. Once you are in the folder and see the file names it will make more sense. Plz like this comment so everyone see it.

For those who struggle like me - I used the Ctrl + Alt + R shortcut on my Windows laptop to run the command/script instead of Ctrl + Enter that is being recommended at 5:18. I think this is a newer version of R that is being available for download in 2024 and some older shortcuts may not work🤷‍♀❓

Great understanding. 0:50 R is the heaviest used software in Data Science. (Free, Vector Ops, Community, packages) ctrl +Enter runs the line from the script. 16:20 Installing Pacman 21:00 Plot(x,y) is a scatter plot of data, but adapts to the type of data. ?plot then look at help Bar charts are for counts with category data is. Histograms are for (shape, gaps, outliers, symmetry) seeing interval data. scatterplot (linear, spread, outlier, correlation) Dataframes and lists 1:43:00 Modeling Data (Heirarchical Clustering, set number of k groups, measures of distance, Divisive (all in one group then start spliting apart) vs agglomative -all apart then add together). Principle components (PCA) - less noise, fewer unhelpful variables implies more meaning. 1:50:20 Shadows. 2 variables. linear. regression. But we look at the perpendicular distance to regression lines, not vertical. Collapse distance. Rotate (transform data). 2D to 1D. Hopefully it is important information. Regression - stepwise, forward, lars, lasso

timestamp 1:38:36 if you're using windows, use a . instead of a ~ so ./Desktop/mbb.csv instead of ~/Desktop/mbb.csv hope this helps someone else. Not sure what the difference is but this worked for me.

The only way I got the chapter 5 imports to work on a pc was to set the working directory to the location of the mbb example files and remove the remaining path from the file name. Please include troubleshooting solution on navigating path structure and setting working directory. Other than that, this has been a solid intro. And I’m finding the best way to learn R is to reverse engineer what others have done.

Goodmorning, I started following this R course however I bumped in some issue. The file name is not anymore R01_Intro_Files but R01_Course_Files, this is not a great deal but I was not finding immediately the file. The second issue is that double clicking on first file R01_2_1_InstalingR actually start some never-ending pop-up like windows dos-like style. windows with black background and open and close inifinte times. the third issue is that the combination CTRL + Enter does not run the instruction, simply put the cursor in the line below. Any idea how to solve this issue?

Can you please include explanations on commands for Windows? I've been trying to import the TXT file and all the preloaded commands are for macOS so it doesn't work for me and I can't seem to find a simple answer for how to edit this.

The major difference is how you specify the file path. The easiest way to fix this would be to right click on the file you want to load, copy its file path, and then paste that in to the R command.

The file names no longer have their prefixes. For example, instead of opening R01_2_1_InstallingR.R, you now open InstallingR.R. Hope this helps."

Here R01_Intro_Files is same file named CourseFile. In this Course File, number before every file name shown in the tutorial is missing, which mean R01_2_1_Installing.R is just installing.R now and R-1_2_3_RStudio.R is just RStudio.R and so on.

Actually, I discovered that everything is there but they have all been renamed, usually as simpler names without the lesson number on the front. The order I went in was InstallingR.R, Plot.R, BarCharts.R, Histograms.R, Scatterplots.R, and so on.

If you are a Windows user, and have run into an issue with importing around 1:38:45 , producing an error that reads something like: "Error: '\U' used without hex digits in character string starting ""C:\U", the problem occurs because of the use of single forward slashes (I'm just learning this myself). One unfun but useful workaround is to just double the forward slashes like so: \\ Really clear and useful video but that might be an important point for non-Mac users.

This is the best introduction to R I could have had. I had a bit of programming experience from a decade ago and I am a bit of a statistics/numbers guy but hardly found resources that balanced these so well. This does not start out well, at least not today. As pointed out in the pinned comment, the file is not right, but the pinned comment does not point out that the filenames are not the same as in the video. The worst problem is that the first use of R in the video doesn't work. The video uses Apple, but it doesn't look anything like that in Windows. The file association is assumed, but isn't available -- you have to create that association with the .R extension. I installed Rstudio and was able to figure some things out, but then the next part of the video is about Rstudio. It would have worked better if you'd installed Rstudio, *then* started using R. As the video points out Rstudio is platform independent, but R isn't, and this video isn't. Anyway, this video no longer works, at least not for Windows, and maybe it never worked for Windows. Most people use Windows, right? Warn them, please.
