R&R for the 506th: The Bornholm Incident Phase 1

Loved watching the Zeus after watching Jester play. I think the problem was a communication error, which may have been fixed in later points. When I was watching them play, I was under the impression there were certain items they had to collect or what not. They're used to "go here, do this job, come back" very straight forward and to the point, much like their normal 506th stuff. So I assume then, that they never even considered a more RPG aspect, whereby there is looting and scavenging (which personally I think adds a more interesting and natural feel to it). I think, perhaps, a conversation to have is to say that they have more freedom to explore than they think they do. If you watch when Jester Zeuses the "4th" mission it becomes super clear. His way of doing it is literally "there are hostages, go get them and bring them back", but he doesn't set out a wider area they can interact with. That's good for 506th missions, but maybe not quite for this. Try having that conversation with them, perhaps? Hope that didn't seem like criticism aha, I'm loving this series and just want to see everyone making the most and enjoying it! :)

I wouldn't say they are out and out better. From examples of their play I would say they are more consistent then the regular player base and communicate better ... most of the time. The regular player base can go from brilliance to stupidity then back to brilliance multiple times in a single episode.

Yeah, digging up some of his old ops and this one really shows the what issues can come up purely based on a lack of communication. Liru is wanting to do an RPG/Survival style campaign, but I don't think it was clearly communicated to the 506th members. So they defaulted to what they were used to, which is military-style mission based, quick-strike, gameplay. Which leads to Liru having to use random NPC's to give them pseudo-missions in hopes that they loot up, because they won't naturally scavenge and loot much on their own. Which is bad, because a proper survival campaign should encourage being at least a moderate loot goblin. I've experienced similar issues with D&D when dealing with different groups. If you have a group accustomed to combat-heavy dungeon dives, they'll blow right past any town interactions and try to head straight into the nearest dungeon, cave, or keep. If you have an RP-heavy group, they'll naturally spend half their time trying to squeeze out RP from virtually any NPC. If you try to do something outside of their norm, without communicating clearly beforehand. You'll find that they unfortunately ignore what you think are obvious hints or common sense and default to their normal method of play. Which isn't to say that they're unable or unwilling. Just that they lack the proper direction from you as DM/Zeus. The only thing I will say is excessive on Liru's part, at least from what I've watched thus far, is the knockback on vehicles. At least for these basic bitch standard zombies. I think having them cause decent chunks of damage should be enough to discourage driving into hordes, and the kickback just makes them less willing to loot vehicles period.

Just a thought regarding zombie ops: You should consider infrastructure shutdown missions. Power plants, especially nuclear power plants, are dangerous when there is no staff to keep them in check. So it would make sense the military would shut down these plants so that a domino effect of disasters could be averted.

It varies per group he Zues's for. The 506th run their own private (can only get their mods if you join the 506th) modset. But the zombie mod is public domain. So is Task Force Radio.
