Ramble on TGD! 😉I do enjoy spending the time listening and learning whether you be on the range or in the reloading room. Why do I carry, hmm...well 1) as a law abiding American citizen I want to to exercise my 2A right ... 2) I like to carry, same as as you had mentioned...3) to protect and defend myself, my family and my home from evil doers and criminals and 4) carrying a firearm provides the resource and option that prevents me from becoming a victim. Good ramble! Take care and stay safe my friend!

I use to be young, strong well built, could handle myself in about any situation, never looked for trouble but never ran if it comes my way. Now I'm 67, got some health problems, and the world has changed, used to get in fight win or lose, shake the guys hand when it's over and go separate ways. Now you have words and next thing you know they pull a gun, or you go to store some nut is shooting the place up, that's why I carry.

Definitely an enthusiast. I like the cartridge talks and rambling. I guess it’s because I’ve been using one since I could carry it. Mostly hunting since that’s what I started out with. Anymore targets and long range plinking is really enjoyable. It’s like having a fire extinguisher. When you need it nothing else can fill that roll. Happy shooting and stay safe.

Definitely concur with all your points, but I’ll add one more: self-determination. No one has a right to attempt to force their will on me or mine. I would say to those who wanders around with a hood up, ear buds in, playing with your phone all the time, you’re probably wasting your time carrying.

Several times i have had to draw a firearm because of marauding dogs, and another time, a rabid racoon. Approaching, snarling, a shot into the ground between me and them has sent them away on the run. Thats a big reason, especially when the grandkids are around.

Why do I carry?... Been robbed at gun point twice, no gun 4 youths (20s?) started following my teenage son in the local Walmart, heard what they were about to do and introduced myself with firearm... they fled. Angry neighbor out on parole for assault/battery built like a linebacker wanted to "talk" to my daughter fled when my pistol became apparent. Three weeks later, back in prison for murder. House broken into by neighbor's renter (I belive), 1 attempt, 2 times successful. Started carrying concealed, neighbor (not renter) noticed when shirt rode up while working in yard, questioned and break-ins stopped. Renter went back to prison for burglary couple months later. Am I making this up, nope. Am I parading around, nope. Neighborhood been lot better since they took out the homeless encampment in the 4 acre wooded swamp across the road 5 years back. Built houses and families moved in. My and mine's safety. That's why I carry. Seems criminals like they're prey helpless. I've had 20 some youths on my porch too trying to get me to open the door. Seems the first question the dispatcher asked was if there was a firearm in the house while sending the police (15 minutes, I timed them). When I announced I had a firearm thru my closed door the young men were eager to be on their way. Imagine that. Never had to use it but I would if needed.

Why do I carry a weapon. Eight years in the Rangers. Thirty years as a peace officer. Was a requirement for the job. After retirement, it was habit. 😏 yes, I've been involved in shootings as a peace officer, and numerous engagements as a soldier. So there's another reason. People are not always nice folks. To blindly assume you're safe in this country and you don’t need personal protection, well, you're an idiot. I've worked a call where two neighbors shot it out over a tree on the property line that one wanted to trim it and the other didn't. Both were injured and arrested once out of the hospital. After seeing just how many totally demented people inhabit this planet, I hardly trust anyone outside family and a few friends. Everyone else is viewed as a potential risk. Road rage, car jacking, robbery, assault, psychological imbalanced shootings, the list is endless. When I was a cop, my goal was to go home after my shift. Today, after more than two decades in retirement, it's still pretty much the same. I just want to get home and feed my cat. If someone wants to create a serious hostile confrontation and wishes me harm, then I'll be obliged to respond with greater force. Besides, my cat's expecting me home. 😉
