Correction First of all DGP is a rank not a post Head of the Police force HoPf is a post, and is what we call DGP but there are many officers at the rank of DGP in a state but only one person can get post as HoPf, not only DGP rank but Add DGP rank officer who is a step junior to DGP can also become HoPf
