Such a wonderful new Wagner and Strauss soprano. Just overwhelming how she takes "du wirst mich befreien" on just one single breath. Even natural-born Ariadne Jessye Norman drew breath before "befreien". Lise's voice just flows and flows and flows. Her Elisabeth in Bayreuth was a miracle, the best I ever heard life on stage.

Great, shimmering voice. It's interesting how she does a lot of notes the way Flagstad did, where she begins with a straight tone, and then the vibrato starts a second later. She does have a bit of the shaking jaw that’s endemic in younger singers today, something you never saw until relatively recently.
@gardenphoto5 жыл бұрын
When people start comparing your soprano voice to the great Varnay and the legendary Flagstad, there's a whole lot more going on than just "The next best new singer." Georg Solti once commented: "I once heard 30 sopranos audition for a part in a Mozart Opera; none of their voices moved me... until I heard Kiri (te Kanawa) sing! Here was something very special; a one in a million voice!" The very same thing is happening here! Yes, Lise is very young, but she already has that magnificent "buttery" fullness of tone, top notes to DIE for, and, YES, her vibrato comes in a few seconds after the note begins - Varnay style - just the way I like it! Take note people: you'll be hearing this very remarkable voice - in all the major Wagner & Strauss soprano roles - for a very long time to come; just think what this Norwegian wonder will do with Isolde... and Elektra... and Brunhilde?!! PLEASE support Lise's career and buy her debut album on Decca (which includes "Es gibt ein Reich"); mine is already on the way... we live in very privileged times. MD

She resembles Kirsten Flagstad so much in terms of vocal endowment and stature! I can't wait for 5-10 years down the line when she is finally ready to start singing the more challenging roles like Isolde. If she were very careful about her choice of roles and building her technique, I am sure that she could succeed Nina Stemme as the next great dramatic soprano of our time.
@doGreatartistsgrowontrees7 жыл бұрын
Christian Ocier Stemme "the great dramatic soprano of our times"? I think Davidsen has a better chance of claiming the title. Time will tell.
@Mrfracturedsoul7 жыл бұрын
doGreatartistsgrowontrees? Davidsen has a voice that is more in line with the old dramatic soprano tradition of Flagstad and Traubel. There's a golden quality to the instrument from top to bottom. Stemme to me resembles more Frida Leider, Mödl, and Varnay in her approach to the great soprano roles. I find her portrayals of the great heroines compelling, and her to be a great musician. No doubt both voices are different, but Stemme has exuded greatness in her art. Let us hope that Davidsen does the same
@doGreatartistsgrowontrees7 жыл бұрын
Christian Ocier I am sorry but relating Stemme with Leider, Varnay and Mōdl is quite a stretch and does not compute. Nothing Stemme has done will ever measure up to the former.

@Homoclassicus6 жыл бұрын
Apart from a certain tendency to start the note without vibrato and much core in her voice and then expand it, which breaks the seamlessness of some lines, her voice per se is certainly a marvel with a tremendous potential, and she is artistically very mature and elegantly musical, with a very solid and homogeneous tone. She reminds me a bit of a younger and more lyrical Astrid Varnay (even that slightly disconcerting flaw I mentioned above!). I hope she keeps improving, because she's already fantastic but has everything to become truly legendary.
@Altonahh105 жыл бұрын
I agree. Gwyneth Jones could do that for seconds and irritated me often enough if she "hit" it or not. The potential I hear in the voice is enormous, compared to what I hear most of the times. Let us get this straight, Lise is already over Elsa and maybe a good Tannhäuser-Elisabeth which will soon be followed by Sieglinde.

I hope she take Birgit's advise to do not sing the hell out too much in a short period. Wait the voice to mature before take some roles... A big voice she has, but try to adjust the vibrato, project properly and support the breath (oh God! this conductor is killing her with this sloooow tempo). Another Birgit advise "add a role with more vocal flexibility to help in handle a heavy voice".

Her vibrato is too much. She should get rid of it immediately because I fear that it´s going to grow when the heavier, more dramatic roles follow (soon). Sometimes the intonation isn´t good as well. And yes, somebody should tell the conductor that he is killing all the tension that´s in the music.
