Incredible footage. The common emotion in all soldiers and civilians had to be they were glad the hell was over. This would have probably been filmed on 16mm by the 2nd Motion Picture Unit, US Army.

D'ailleurs, la manifestation avec les incidents du métro Charonne, ce n'était pas en 1961, mais en 1962, plus exactement le 8 février 1962, vous confondez avec la manifestation du 17 octobre 1961. Mais, Maurice Papon a bon dos, il n'était que préfet de Police de Paris, nommé par le régime précédent, celui de la IVe République, sur sa fin d'ailleurs, début 1958, le nouveau pouvoir, issu des évènements du 13 mai 1958, n'a fait que le confirmer à cette fonction. Au dessus de Roger Frey, il y avait le premier ministre Michel Debré, et son conseiller pour les Affaires de sécurité, Constantin Melnik. Et au dessus de Michel Debré, il y avait le président de la République Charles de Gaulle. Pendant la guerre, Maurice Papon n'était pas préfet de la Gironde comme je l'ai entendu, mais secrétaire général de la Préfecture. À la Libération, il a été maintenu par le commissaire de la République, Gaston Cusin, ancien directeur de cabinet de Vincent Auriol, ministre des Finances du gouvernement Léon Blum en 1936-1937, et garde des Sceaux, ministre de la Justice du second gouvernement Blum qui n'a duré que trois semaines en mars 1938. Il sera après guerre, président de la première et de la deuxième assemblée nationale constituante. Après 1947 jusqu'en 1954, il est le premier président de la République française (IVe République). Gaston Cusin quant à lui est l'un des initiateurs avec Pierre Cot ministre de l'Air et Jean Moulin, son directeur de cabinet de la politique de "non-intervention relachée", afin de faire parvenir tout de même du matériel et des armes aux Républicains espagnols. Et puis pourquoi nous parle-t-on toujours des 17 octobre 1961 ou du 8 février 1962, pourquoi ne pas évoquer les morts de la rue d'Isly le 26 mars 1962, ou les anciens combattants tués par les forces de l'Ordre le 6 février 1934. Il y avait des anciens combattants communistes de l'ARAC dans cette manifestation.

These will be some of the same Parisiens who spat and hit British prisoners as they were marched along the streets of Paris by German troops some years before. In footage on KZbin, you can see at least ONE German soldier had the decency to intervene to stop them from hitting British POWs. From North Africa to Germany. The only wars that US public have ever experienced near them are watching Hollywood Spielberg stuff in movie theaters. Pathetic.

um, no you're quite wrong there. the US experienced the "war on independence," "the war of 1812" and the "Civil War," all of which occurred on US soil. .. no one denies the bravery of frenchies who continued to fight nazis after capitulation, but that does VERY little to hide the humiliating defeat and years of collaboration. Who cares what happened at verdun, We're all wondering why France capitulated so quickly and easily, while her ally Britain pledged to fight "to the end" and "Never surrender," as Churchill said.

And when you talk of the "war on independence," "the war of 1812" and the "Civil War, it's really close to a joke. What were these 2 wars, compared to more of 1500 years of military warfare. Through centuries, the French won alone against entire coalitions more wars and battles than all western nations put together. This, when US were still a desert populated by Indian nations. Dead, wounded, missing. @@tua09769 Concerning collaborators, they were only a part of the French. Some rotten politicians and dozens thousands Nazi afficionados. For real collaborators, have rather a look on deviant criminal Yugoslavian or Hungarian collaborators, who committed the worst atrocities. The French who fought on the Allied side were the majority, and most average French of this time were above all concerned in finding something to eat and survive.
