Bu Bayram maaile Rize'de Dede evindeydik. Dik bir yamacın eteğinde iki avlulu, ahşap karkas yapıda tipik bir karadeniz evidir. Düşük sıcaklık şartlarından korunabilmek için evin moloz taş ile örülü kısmı toprağa gömülü inşa edilmiş ve bir dönem ahır olarak kullanılmış. İçinde kestane ağacından yapılan yıllar boyunca taşlaşmış bölücü duvarlar var. Maalesef dede evinin Karadeniz mimarisinin tüm özelliklerini taşıdığından ve çok özellikli bir yapı olduğundan kimsenin haberi yok. Zaman içerisinde kültürel seviyeye ve zevklere göre değişime uğradı. Bazı eklentiler yapıldı ve yapıyla alakasız malzemeler kullanıldı. Deniz gören cephesindeki avlusu yıkıldı yerine apartman bloğu inşa edildi. Adeta beton yapıların içinde var olmaya çalışıyor. Bu yapının eskizini yapmayı çok isterdim ama hemen bitişik nizamda bir apartman olduğu için kötü görünüyordu. Bu sebeple hala var olan ve yaşamaya çalışan diğer avlusundan bir manzara sunuyorum sizlere.
Avlunun hemen önünde bulunan çay bahçesine kurdum masamı. Çalışmaya başlarken hava sisliydi fakat ilerleyen saatlerde sis dağıldı ve manzaranın egzotik güzelliği, masalsı atmosferi ve muhteşem çay bahçeleri ortaya çıkmış oldu.
Bu sefer farklı bir teknik uyguladım ve manzaranın fotoğrafı yerine kendisine bakarak eskizi çalıştım. Eskizde yakın konumda bulunan önü mavi boyalı konut da tıpkı dedemin evi gibi aynı tekniklerle yapılmış ve neyse ki bu yapı günümüze kadar olduğu gibi korunmuş.

This Eid, we were at my grandfather's house in Rize with my family. It's a typical Black Sea house, with two courtyards and a wooden frame structure on the steep slope of a hill. The part of the house built with rubble stone is buried into the ground to protect it from low temperatures. Inside, there are wonderful wooden partition walls. Unfortunately, although it contains all the features of Black Sea architecture, no one gives it the value it deserves. Over time, it underwent changes according to cultural levels and tastes. Some additions were made, and unrelated materials were used in the building. The courtyard facing the sea was demolished, and an apartment building was built in its place. Unfortunately, it's trying to survive amidst concrete structures. I really wanted to sketch this building, but there's an adjacent apartment building, which made it look bad. That's why I'm still offering you a view from the other courtyard that still exists and is trying to survive.
I set up my table in the tea garden right in front of the courtyard. As I started working, the weather was foggy, but as the hours passed, the fog cleared, revealing the exotic beauty of the landscape, the fairy-tale atmosphere, and the magnificent tea gardens.
This time, I applied a different technique and worked on the sketch by looking at the landscape itself. In the sketch, the house painted blue in the foreground is made using the same techniques as my grandfather's house, and thankfully, it has been preserved to this day.
