They keep on developing the cities and forgetting about building new power stations to accommodate all from lower, middle and higher income class. They also turn the blind eyes on building more of dams to store water. This will attract more and more investors because they are running away because of shortage of water and electricity.

I'm all for development, I'm not so much of a fan of the smart aspect of it. Some of it may go, but some are just too much of an invasion of privacy. One thing I notice of all of these development projects, non actually take into account the electricity needs that would result from these developments. Not one of these projects includes the building of power stations, and as we know, the existing power stations aren't even capable of suppling the current demands. These city megaprojects are also for the well-off. It does not seek to develop or improve the lives of those who are poor.

@@obakengmorobane14 nah theres really no excuse for these cities to be in Gauteng only ... they just causing brain drain on other provinces , if they spread these cities around sa then they grow the country exponentially, why should Gauteng keep growing alone while other provinces move backwords , Coz im sure there more the smart city the more ppl will leave our small provinces amd leading them to fail but with these cities scattered around the new cities and old cities would feed from each other and better infrastructure on these provinces and also increase tourism

Thanks for your great work in sharing information important to all! Problem though is if the projections for 2030 estimate that three quarters of all South African's will be living in cities, what happens to people who are poor (mostly uneconomically active)? What happens to the aged? What happens to supply of housing, electricity [which we already cannot cope with]? Renewable Energy? Yep Smart Cities are the way to go. Excellent concept!
