R129 Soft Top Adjustment #3 and mystery Adjusting Bolt

So found a adjusting bolt for both sides, it adjusts just the front part of soft top as it closes at front latches, not much if any info on this bolt and how to adjust it so I played with it, it does adjust forward / backwards motion, these tops are not perfect at least for closing.

Nice color combo,my 94 sl 600 is the same colors,I have never seen another with the exact colors before. I have a 98 sl 500 beige with tan top also. And my 600 top closes the same way,only after replacing the upper cylinders, I plan to adjust it over the winter.

It reminds me of a Nautical theme blue and white, as far as soft tops go, sometimes it closes hands free and other times it needs help on front, I think depends on angle of car, owners manual states you may have to help it at certain angles.

Your top shouldn't bang down at the front header rail like that. The hydraulics are supposed to slow it as it transitions so it arrives gently onto the header rail. This indicates either an hydraulic issue, where the pressure doesn't reduce, or else a switch problem. The transition switch is located on the left side, you will see the "top in compartment switch" and further down is another micro switch that activates on a cam mechanism as the entire top reaches its highest point. The hydraulic pressure reverses to counter the weight of the front portion landing on the header rail. Hope that helps.

Thanks for that! I always thought front dropping with a bang is unusual , Top Hydraulics rebuilt all my cylinders, all my micro switches have been tested and work, if transition switch is faulty you think it would throw a code? will inspect and observe, pump is good but will check level anyway. Always learning!

Hi again, it may be worth a quick call to Klaus but as far as I know the switch is on left side right down at the hinge area almost where everything pivots but nearer the roll bar. It's a black micro switch that appears to be on a slight cam system. On my 91 my roof noticeably slows as it moves past the highest point and it almost stops as it gets to the windshield header. Then it move gently diwn again and locking begins. The newer cars use a system built into the roof controller to do this part.

Thanks Ben, since I adjusted those mystery bolts in one of my videos, the top is behaving coming down, no slamming like before, doesn't do that bouncing thing anymore, it lands softly so the system seems to be working, I will double check that black switch you're talking about, only thing I still have to do is pull red switch back/forth and pins drop and lock, when parked at an angle like hill or slope top locks perfectly ,car has always been like that, guess that's why they have a pull handle there lol.

Hello, my soft top is falling onto the windshield frame even harder than in the video. I have already found the microswitch and measured it. According to the wiring diagram, the microswitch is a normally open contact. My switch works in the same way, but is apparently controlled incorrectly by the cam mechanism. According to the function diagram, the switch should open when the soft top is at its highest point (during the closing process). In my case, the switch is open beforehand and closes at this moment. It is therefore actuated the wrong way round. Can the cam mechanism be adjusted? If so, how?
