Seen here is a ride on a 5 train, operated by R142, running round trip via express to and from 149 Street-Grand Concourse.
Due to structural and track work, 5 trains were split into two sections for the weekend:
(1)Eastchester-Dyre Avenue and East 180 Street.
(2)Bowling Green and 149 Street-Grand Concourse via 4 train level.
Passengers who need service in the Bronx would have to use the 2 train via connecting at 3rd Avenue-149 Street by shuttle bus. 2 trains were also split into two sections as well since the work was also being done in most of Harlem and upper West side.
In the first trip, this one came out of the relay after being held up by a 4 train since it follows it downtown, then express all the way to Bowling Green. Although the announcements had a late startup since it was in a rush to head on out for its interval downtown. When we got to Bowling Green, it was discharged and went straight into the loop for its next service. I wanted to stay on, however, with the conductor making the announcement to get everyone out since it was taken out of service, I had to get out of there quick as possible, plus, there are security cameras installed in the R142s for safety reasons, thus they can catch if you are still on the train for no reason, even when taken out of service.
In the next video, the R142 came out of relay from the loop for uptown service to 149 Street-Grand Concourse in a quick flash. But as we got to 14 Street-Union Square, it got so crowded, I had got up and stand up by the window for the next few minutes until it got less crowded. It got less crowded when we got to 125 Street, where everyone thought it was the last stop, but it wasn’t, and the last stop was 149 Street-Grand Concourse, since it was due to accessibility work and track replacement.
Most of the R142s were loaned from the 4 train since it had lack of access for other R142s that were up at East 180 Street yard or at 239 Street yard, even though they share it on the 2 line, plus, 2 train service was also split into two sections as well, and no there wasn’t any R142As running on the 5 since it, as it was being used on the 4 for extra service to Brooklyn.
In the end, it was discharged at 149 Street-Grand Concourse and was taken out of service with the conductor making the same announcement just like at Bowling Green when he discharged to kick everyone off the train, and like I mentioned, security cameras were installed for security reasons for safety purposes. But it was discharged and taken into relay so that would go back downtown to Bowling Green.
Enjoy!
