FROM THE r68 trains can be that a big part will be replaced trough 211 and 262 and the rest circa 90 units drives until end of the 2030s circa 2038-2039 and then comes a new train and replace them.

Converting the public address system in the R68, R68A cars would be too expensive. It would require stripping each car's interior, changing the wires and installing electronic signs. The R62A cars are the last SMEE rolling stock for the A-Division. R68A cars are the last SMEE type of rolling stock for the B-Division. New York City Transit will replace the 75' long R68 and R68A cars with the R211 types in the future.

most likely after the 211’s completion. then the R68 -> R268. i dont think the r68s will retire yet. some 46’s are gone 5-10 of them. the R62/A will go after the R68 or before. the reason the W will get the 211’s because 68’s on the W look trash. the 7 is clean, the 1/3 will get R142’s and probably more R142A’s from the 4/6 will be on the 7. so the 7 might get even more R188’s . the C definitely needs R211’s because some people hate the delay in “the next stop is” but my prediction for the R262/268’s will be by 2026-2040. or 2025-2030. its one of these dates according to my calculations if the R62 retire. there would be the lack of fleets on the IRT.

Thanks for the comment! I too love the music. It is true about the Delivery of the R211. They had like almost 8 and a half years to design it. Once they sign the contract, they also signed a contract with Bombardier to make the R179, Thus delaying the production of the R211. They wasted more Money than what was already put down to create the trains. The R179 was In Revenue Testing in 2017 then releases a few months later. The R211 was being planned at the time and then started to be created. They frames of the trains were being made, leaving the design to be made after. Next month In April the Pilots might be testing at the time, depending.

the one thing that these trains have on the danish metro is the signage on the sides of the cars. At some point the MTA needs to update their ancient signalling system too. Unfortunately, these trains will end up dirty and disgusting because of travellers.

They Will. The R68 and R68A will retire from 2025-2030. The R44 is very close to its end. The R46 will also retire soon in the mid 2022.

The R142s are not retiring. Only the R62/as are getting replaced by the R262/as for Cbtcs. The R62/as cannot handle cbtcs. However the R62as got replaced by the R17s R14s R15s R21/22s back in 1983 1987. In 2003 the R62as on the Flushing line got replaced by the R33s wf Redbirds on the Flushing line and the R142/as got Replaced by the Redbirds on the Pelham line and Jerome avenue 4 line and the 2/5 trains . The R62s that was on the Jerome avenue 4 line went to the 3 line for a replacements of the R62as that used to be on the Broadway 3 line.
