⁴ᴷ ᴴᴰᴿ R211T Open Gangway Cars Operating in the System for the First Time during Clearance Testing

Here we see the brand new R211T open gangway subway cars going through their first test runs in the New York City Subway system! The new cars began clearance testing on December 6, 2022 along the (A) and (E) lines. It is also likely that this was the first time these cars ever operated on the road. Enjoy!

I wonder if at anypoint during a mid-life refurbishment the MTA would consider replacing the seats with something more similar to what you'd find in the London Underground's S-Stock. Because aside from the seats seeming to look a bit brutalist, everything else about this subway train is pretty much on point, especially with the open gangways

I believe that the R211 Gangway Cars will enter in service after the test between the years 2025-2030.

@Fernando Ifill-Ruiz if that's the case it wouldn't surprise me, because of two reasons: 1. CBTC Project from 59th Street Columbus Circle to High Street is underway. 2. The R46 is scheduled for retirement on or around 2025 since they been in service since 1975.

Think about the same thing when "New Performance" Trains in Japan such as JNR 101 Series were introduced with walking-through carriages. While MTA has said "NO" to do so XD

But people want "lower taxes" and to pay a few fortunes for a personal car instead, so... on we go with the crappy infrastructure.

Yeah it's the first time it was out for testing. It was parked up at Pitkin Yard since it was transferred there a while ago.
