Here we see a very rare and interesting consist being transferred through the system. Here we see a train of R33WF Redbirds, R58 Refuse Flatcars, and an R62A single unit from 239th St Yard being used to bring a train of four R33WF redbirds from 207 St Yard to 239 St Yard. Enjoy!

Good bless New York City for its great transit history! I was born and raised in The Bronx, so I had the privilege of riding the Redbird along the IRT#6 Line during the 80's and 90's! Man, it was fun to catch an Express #6 at 125th Street. Once the Redbirds got on the express track at 138th Street, you were in for a helluva ride. I swear the motor men took full advantage and had those babies race along the 6 Line. Especially when it went above ground and made that sharp right turn passed the Whitlock Avenue Station. You'd think the trains were gonna fly off the track. Man, pre-9/11 NYC was the best...

@Jose Morales I remember riding the Redbirds on the (2) (4) (5) and the (6) line during the 1980's and the 1990's as a child. The Redbirds are my favorite trains on the NYC subway system. I also remember visiting the twin towers prior to 9/11. I miss the twin towers a lot and NYC is not the same without them.

Great Up to date, Video Work! As Always; Excellent NYC transit videos, Mr. Hammers! (These pre-stainless steel cars, brings back memories, Growing up on 219th Street and White plains road. It's great to see some vegetation in the 239th, and 180th St. Street yard, as I recall this as a kid growing up in the Bronx in the 1960s. I'm currently modeling parts of these two yards, in HO scale, with the idea of using some variety of vegetation, and not just a gravel wasteland of a yard). Thanks again for sharing.

My earliest memories of the Redbird's existence was on a train like this. An R127 or 134 was leading with a few of these R58 "flats," trailed by a pair of Redbirds, still completely red and carrying the 7 rollsign! It must've been a year or so since they were last removed from service

When they ran on the 7, the singles were used to make 11 car trains. On the 6, they can just put all the singles together to make extra trains, or use them in work service throughout the A Division, since the redbird work cars and the R127/R134 are not air conditioned.

Anyone know the reason for that lash-up of a work car between two diesels? I've been seeing this in each video where an R-211 train is being hauled. Thanks in advance!
@alanbaum3228
@alanbaum3228 3 жыл бұрын
The car in between the two diesels is there to put space in between them. Two of those older model diesels when next to each other, are too heavy for the elevated track structure of NYC Transit. The spacer car in between them spreads the load farther apart so the track can support the weight. This does not apply to the new blue diesels, which can operate next to each other.
@steveember8972
@steveember8972 3 жыл бұрын
@@alanbaum3228 Thanks, Alan. I knew there had to be a simple explanation, and that makes perfect sense. I hadn't considered that those two diesels together could be too heavy for the elevated structures!
