R36S: The New Retro Handheld Budget King?

So I had to try this one out. £30/$40 for a retro handheld with twin sticks that can play Dreamcast sounds too good to be true!

I wish i had known this device played N64 before i ordered the RG35xx. I still may pick this one up too. I just bought the RP3+ but I want the Trimui and maybe this one too. Besides Retroid and the high end devices such as the Odins and such, is there one that plays everything? And if so is it playable out the box without having to tinker with it?

The best value for money in my opinion is the Retroid Pocket 2S (mentioned in this video) It’s $99 (plus shipping) and will play everything including some GameCube and PS2 with analog triggers. I’m terms of value for money nothing gets close IMO. However, comes with no games and some setup involved. But this is around half the price and does a good job

Yes Crusin USA is actually not an easy game to emulate so I would imaging it is going to be one of the games that won’t work. There will be a few for the N64. Conkers Bad Fir Day didn’t work well for me

The dpad is a little stiff when playing for an hour you can start to feel it. Fortunately mine ''broke in" in about 3 days

I tested it. It didn’t run great to be honest. Lots of frame drops. The 2S is a far superior device but equally it’s double the money. If you just want lower end or 2D PSP games this will do it.

Hey! So the RP3+ is fantastic. Also they have just dropped the price as the RP4 is coming soon (you may want to consider holding off as it will be superior). There are so many tutorials out there for the RP3+. I just received mine and when I got it thought that it would be really hard. It was a learning curve but I got it and have downloaded so many ROMS. Once you do the initial setup and download all the different Rooms and whatever front end you decide, making folders is a breeze. You can download ROMS straight to the device via your computer or wherever you find your Roms. You can unzip them and place them into their respective folders right on the device. This way may take a while but once you get set up and rolling you'll be able to enjoy your device. The other way is have an SD card already formatted and ready to go with ROMs will work too. I'm not good at that because I thought I had set up my SD card but when I inserted it it prompted me to format on the device. The RP3+ is great despite my learning curve. You'll be able to play Android games as well. (Sorry for the long comment. )

So personally I would always use SELECT + X to bring up the Retroarch menu and select save state. I believe the default Hotkey to save is SELECT + L1

Hey, sadly no, this does not have anywhere near enough power to run GameCube. Some Dreamcast is as good as this will get. You are looking at something like a Retroid Pocket 2S for GameCube and that’s around $100 plus shipping and only has partial GameCube support. Also most of the games you need to source yourself I’m afraid.

Tough question. So the Anbernic has the better spec and will run games better. But doesn’t have the sticks so Dreamcast and N64 won’t play well. ANBERNIC has just announced the RG35XX H which also has twin stock and should be up for pre-order any day now… so that would be my recommendation

Thanks for the comment, sadly there is no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth so I cannot think of a way that these could be connected together. It can be done on the Miyoo Mini +

Had the same issue. Get rid of the original sd card and replace it to a new better one. Reflashed with balenia etcher

Didnt have to waste the old one. Once that breaks i still have another. But no more updating for me. Old version works fine anyways

I think it really depends. If your PSP can run emulators then in theory that will do everything that this can. Although the joysticks are better for PS games that support it as well as N64 analogue. Dreamcast is also going to work on this. So it depends on your use case. The other benefit is just consolidating it into one device. Of course, the PSP is widescreen and runs PSP 😀

Yes there are things that can be done. I think if you look up Taki Udon he has a tutorial. Some people in the comments here have suggested that actually the more you use it the better it gets

All the above games worked. Sega Rally 2 and Crazy Taxi 2 both had some stuttering. I personally turned down the resolution and it fixed this.
