Great repair video. I wonder if you could you AC on the relay contacts a few times to clean the oxidation without requiring disassembly.

When it becomes flakey it is not likely to clean itself. I suppose if you bounced the contacts a few hundred times it might begin to work somewhat but if you check it with an ohmmeter you will probably see some resistance present and it will continue on its path to oxidation. If the relay is in frequent use it probably will not give as much problem but an old unit that hasn't been exercised for a long time will probably have oxidation problems. You have to remember these radios are old and all contacts need cleaning. The antenna relay can give similar problems even though I think those contacts are better quality. Mine was flakey and I had to disassemble it and clean the contacts. My friend says to use a Dremmel with a cut-off wheel to open it up instead of a hacksaw. Your choice. Trying to glue it back together with no screws to hold it is risky with any type of glue especially if you try to pick up a unit by holding on to the relay cover. It could separate and cause it to drop on your toe. A drop would probably severely damage the unit also. Better safe than sorry.
