Part 2 of the Academy Award nominated documentary feature film of Thor Heyerdahl's expedition across the Atlantic Ocean.
Shared on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Ra II expedition of 1970. The Ra II sailed the 6100 kilometers from Morocco to Barbados in 57 days, proving that contact between the Mediterranean region and South or Central America prior to Columbus’ discovery, was possible.
The international crew with different creed and backgrounds, sailed under the UN flag: Thor Heyerdahl from Norway, Norman Baker from USA, Yuri Senkevich from then USSR, Carlo Mauri from Italy, Abdullah Djibrine from Chad, Santiago Genoves from Mexico, Kei Ohara from Japan, Georges Sourial from Egypt, and Madani Ait Ouhanni from Marocco.
This film, directed by Thor Heyerdahl and Lennart Ehrenborg, with Kei Ohara and Carlo Mauri as Cinematographers and Roscoe Lee Browne as Narrator, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
This was Thor Heyerdahl's second nomination; he won his first and only Academy Award for the documentary feature film "Kon-Tiki" in 1951.
