Pt. M. Venkatesh Kumar is an Indian classical vocalist. He is Born in Lakshmipura in the Dharwad region of northern Karnataka. He is renowned for his husk, vibrant classical singing style, He is also popular in singing Dasara Padas & Devotional songs. He learned Hindustani vocal in the Gwalior and Kirana Gharana styles under the Veerashaiva saint and Hindustani musician, Puttaraj Gawai. He blends these styles effortlessly in his presentations, though he admits to influences beyond these gharanas.

Raag Durga is filled with innocence and purity. This Raag belongs to the Bilawal Thaat. The name Durga is derived from the name of the Hindu goddess Durga, the warrior form of goddess Parvati. She is the wife of Lord Shiva, and is associated with great power (Shakti). The word "Durga" means Invincible, Impassable or simply "the who is beyond defeat". She is said to represent patience and fearlessness.
Though originally from South Indian Classical (Carnatic) Music, raag Durga is equally suitable for Hindustani Classical Music style. Khayals and Bandishen and very nicely composed and people practically sway and dance to the melodic compositions. This raag creates a very soothing ambiance which is neither very deep nor very playful. It is a popular nocturnal melody which is also very mellifluous in nature. Traditionally, time for this raag is late evening to midnight. However, it is one of those raags that lends itself elegantly to any time of the day and to both slow and lively tempos. It has the qualities of brightness, innocence and purity. It often reminds the listeners of the oceans or the hills.
