You know many Hindi speakers can also understand that much Sanskrit... Many of us had Sanskrit as our third language. My generation also learned some Sanskrit as compulsory part as third paper with Hindi. We had to translation work from Sanskrit to Hindi and Hindi to Sanskrit. Basic but still.... And yes I can pick on many words in Telugu or Kannad if they are from Sanskrit.. Kantara songs are getting so many hits because besides Varah Roopam that is in Sanskrit, Sringar siriye too is quite accessible with many familiar words even when in Kannada. One at least can pick on where the song is about and going.
