As time-sensitive as they might seem now, the prizes were actually well made and manufactured in the United States. What a rare privilege. The people were calm and well-behaved. This is what I miss. :)

When i was a little kid , we had that GE washer and dryer combo . They lasted about 20 or 25 years. Won't find a home appliance that will last that long anymore.

1972. How we all love to be back in time to that year. Lot's and lots of things happened in '72: Nixon's re-election and the start of Watergate, the Munich Summer Olympics Massacre, Vietnam War, "The Godfather", the Miami Dolphins perfect season begins, "All in the Family" remains the #1 sitcom (w/ new shows debuting on CBS that fall, which includes Maude, M*A*S*H, The Waltons, and The Bob Newhart Show), NBC's Sunday Mystery Movies (Columbo, McCloud, and McMillan & Wife) returns for a second season with the Wednesday version debuting, etc.

I was only 9 years old when this episode was recorded. I still can't get over how the contestants win their games and the showcase, and still less than $4300 worth of prizes. Of course it was different back then. Still a great game show.

Rare alcohol reference with the Cocktail Mix in the grocery game (with the loopy contestant). I don't think I've seen anything in any grocery game that even refers to booze besides this. And I've watched hundreds and hundreds of episodes. They've had bars and stuff, but no mentions to booze besides this.

The second pricing game was first known as "The Price is Right" supemarket. Subsequently, it became "Grocery Game". Originally contestants had to purchase within $6.75-$7.00 to win. Subsequently, it was changed to between $20-$21.

Never heard of the Sohmer Piano Company. Now I know why. Sold off in the mid-1980s. Today, the remnants absorbed into a Korean music company.

People dressed more formally then (despite the questionable fashions of the 70's). People were also MUCH thinner, then. The audience was older than it is today. No silly T-shirts. No stupid, overweight screaming African-Americans on stage. No goofy college-aged contestants. No "I-wanna-give-a-shout-out to my mother, my father, my sister, my dog, my canary" nonsense during the spinning of the wheel segments, and other embarrassingly bad behaviour that is the norm on today's TPIR. The last 44 years have not been too kind for the newer, Drew Carey, modern game-show contestants. Just an observation; not a judgment whatsoever.

If Drew was a bad host, he would not have been doing TPIR for 9 years already.
@jonsmith42389 жыл бұрын
Not really....society has taste in crap today....because society has already sunk deep into the sewer. Drew is an incredibly lousy host....the audience is obnoxious....and the contestants act like obnoxious douchebags today.....and the production people encourage it. Hell I find myself rooting against the contestants today, even if they are a true, yet sad, reflection of today's society.
