Built for exposed climbs and formidable winter weather, the new Generator Alpine jacket is one of the warmest, lightest, and most packable belay jacket currently available on the market.

is there a women's version available?

There isn't currently, which is a shame. Within our review we suggested the following, although we acknowledge that a women's fit option would be much better. "Smaller female climbers may find it worth experimenting with one of the smaller men's jackets. That said, it's quite roomy for its size, and in my standard Large I've certainly encountered closer-fitting insulated jackets". Is there a temperature rating for the jacket?can you compare it to the arcteryx atom ar or some down jacket?
@ukclimbingofficial2 жыл бұрын
Brands tend not to put temperature ratings on jackets, as there's a lot of other variables involved, including what you're wearing beneath it. When it comes to comparing it to the Atom, it's warmer than the SV, which is the warmest in that range. The thing to check is the gsm of the insulation used, as that'll give you a rough indication of how much warmth each will have like-for-like. In the Generator there's 133g gsm vs. 100gsm in the Atom SV. It'd be tricky to compare it to down, as that operates under a different system with fill power being the most important factor. Either way, it'd suffice to say that the Generator is a seriously warm jacket!!

Does the jacket come with a stuffsack or does it pack into its pocket? How big is it when packed? Thanks!

It comes with a stuff sack, although I must admit I haven't historically tended to use one for my belay jacket, instead preferring just to stuff it as/is in my pack instead. Due to its synthetic nature, and the fact it's quite a large jacket, it stuffs down to quite a chunky size, but again - that's why I've tended not to use stuff sacks. Without it's much easier to mould them into any spare space you have, whereas with a large, compact ball it's much more difficult.

@@nephelauxetic6207 Just spoken to Dan Bailey, our Gear Editor, and he reckoned it was in/around the 1.5 litre mark when packed. Hope that's of help!

Oh, fantastic! That's actually smaller than imagined, considering the warmth it gives and that it is a synthetic. Thanks for reaching out!

There's a lot more info on the Fair Wear website, but here's a link to their mission statement, which should allay your fears of their products being produced in sweatshops: www.fairwear.org/about-us

The guy looks like he is afraid of her lol. Goddam he is awkward. Sticks his ass all far out instead of getting closer when they unzip the jacket. Come on bro

I think you might be reading a bit too much into this. If there is any awkwardness it’s because it was filmed shortly after the lockdown ended in the middle of the pandemic. It’s the first time many of us had stood in the same room as another person for quite a while!!
