Great video! So many reviewers neglect to inform about size and fit - kudos for nailing that part. Subscribed.

I picked up VR Summit earlier this season and love it. The Summit compliments my Borealis really well. The Alpine Light seems light a great lightweight alternative to the Summit. Another great video!

@@sergiomanchado3635 great question! The VR Summit and the VR alpine light are perfect for layering with a fleece underneath. They both have a “regular” fit.

These both look great. Im really torn between the two. My particular use would be as a summer jacket and mild autumn and spring jacket to stop a bit of wind and to compliment my hard shell.

Hi! Very nice review. I was thinking also which could be the biggest difference between VR Alpine and the VR Summit, since both have a inner warm layer… Also , do you think the difference is big in terms of durability with the Borealis? I’m looking for something functional and versatile…also to layer with fleece in the middle. Would be very helpful to have your advice. Thanks and cheers

The borealis is way more durable. Seriously, the borealis is an incredible jacket. I only use the VR Alpine if it’s around 0 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

@@teatimeinthealpine5752 Nice, yes I see many nice compliments about it. Would love to have it in oxblood color. About the size, I got the S but feels a bit tight with a fleece under it...my chest is around 98 and I'm 1,76cm (5.75foot) Would you recommend me to size M? I'm afraid that maybe it is too loose and overlong arms...

Do you only wear a base layer underneath this?? Like in the clip 1:06. Im thinking of the VR Summit, but I feel like I would be cold, and would need to wear an active fleece sweater underneath. Also, it doesn't seem durable.

Found your channel when I was looking for reviews on the Borealis. That and this review have to be some of the most honest reviews I've seen. I'm still unsure on which to get myself, as most of my mountain climbing/scrambling is done here in the UK where we see the weather changing almost by the minute. Is the Borealis in Fire Cracker and the VR Alpine in Oxblood red/Ascent red?
@teatimeinthealpine5752
@teatimeinthealpine5752 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. You are correct. I reach for my tattered destroyed borealis 99% of time. It’s such a functional piece. Unless you are always below zero Fahrenheit the borealis is the better choice.

@@teatimeinthealpine5752 Thanks, here in the UK we very rarely see anything below 23 fahrenheit, or at least I don't mountain climb in temperatures that low because it usually means high winds. The general saying here in the UK is "if you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes"

Nice video! I would like to ask, how much wind resistant is this jacket??? If we had a scale from 1 to 10, in which 10 is total windproofness, what grade would you give???
@teatimeinthealpine5752
@teatimeinthealpine5752 3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the great question! I’ll answer this in multiple ways. Because realistically a softshell’s primary job is not to stop wind. So if we are comparing it to all kinds of jackets in general, I would rate it a “3”. In this category we have to compare it to top shelf hardshells which shares a primary job of being waterproof and wind proof. If we are comparing it to softshells in general. I’d rate it a “6-7”. Reason being is - we have insulated softshells and heavier/warmer softshells we are contending with. Ultimately it has no chance in performing well in comparison. But, if we compare it to similar products. (Extremely lightweight softshells) I think this is one of the best I’ve ever used for stopping wind. That lightweight fleece inner and the pertex outer really do a great job for a LIGHTWEIGHT softshell. We have to compete with things like the borealis from Rab and the Tenquille from Arcteryx. This softshell beats both easily and I would rate this jacket a “10” in this category. One other thing to add - if you don’t climb without a hardshell in the pack no matter the forecast. (I recommend always having a hardshell even if you don’t expect rain) Then this jacket is perfect. If it gets too windy you can pull out the hardshell.

Do u like the hood adjustment pulls on the inside or outside of the jacket? If u need to adjust the hood you need to unzip the jacket. Do u like the velcro in the back of the hood or a pull cord??
@teatimeinthealpine5752
@teatimeinthealpine5752 Жыл бұрын
I think most of the time, I prefer a pull cord. Most of the time for me, the Velcro is a set and forget about. But, Velcro often fails before pull cord does. When pull cords are on the outside, they tend to snag, and or become bothersome if your backpack straps sit on them. If I could only have one jacket, I would elect for an internal pull cord.

@Tea Time In The Alpine thanks. I did purchase the Rab Positron jacket. I actually do like the rear velcro. It does work well. I was surprised. As for the interior pull cords. It is not that big of a deal. I don't have any complaints so far with Rab. I like their products. Moving over from The North Face. Ever hear of Kailas? They seem to be good as well.
