@shirleymae30 Some of the boats here do use bigger pots, My brother and his skipper use the smaller ones as they are easier to handle and they shoot 30 pots together at a time in a string, so I suppose deck space would become an issue. Also their buyer doesn't seem so intersted in big lobsters, whoever he is supplying them to seem to prefer ones that are just a little over the measure. (maybe that comes down to how much they cost in the resturant or something like that). Thanks for the comment.

@wishmaster200 All the definite under-sised ones are thrown straight back, The rest are measured up once they shoot the gear again. The authoroties are pretty strict in the UK if you put bands on undersised lobsters and you will face a hefty fine if caught. So no-one is keeping undersised ones.

I was not trying to be critical, i was just thinking that our style traps might fish really well over there. But it did look like a well run boat and an efficient fishing operation. One thing i noticed that might make things a little easier for them is to shorten up the bridle length a little bit, so the traps are hauled a bit higher out of the water and pulling them aboard doesn't require an upward lift by the captain just an inward pull, but length is probably dictated by the deck stacking.

They get baited mainly with whats left of a whiting after it has had the fillet taken off.

Nice video, what kind of engines do you run are they 4-6-or 8 cylinder ? I know fuel is expensive there so I assume you run small economical engines.

I mean no offense but they should try fishing some of the larger lobster traps from here in Maine (USA). It is widely known in the fishing industry that bigger traps catch more and bigger lobsters. I just can't figure out why they are still fishing such small pots over there.
