Karen Pryor Clicker Training

Karen Pryor Clicker Training

Күн бұрын

Jumping through hoops, walking on two legs, and spinning in circles are just some of the behaviors demonstrated by the amazing rabbits in this video! In Getting Started: Clicking with Your Rabbit you can learn how to train your rabbit to do similar behaviors, so download a copy and get started clicking today! From the ClickFlicks Learning Center. www.clickertrai...
"Clicker training" is the popular term for the training or teaching method based on what we know about how living organisms learn.
Research has shown that any creature-whether a dog, cat, dolphin, parrot, fish, horse, llama, or person-is more likely to learn and repeat actions that result in consequences it desires and enjoys. So clicker trainers provide consequences desired by their animal in exchange for actions or behaviors desired by their trainers.
We call these consequences "rewards" and the process is called "reinforcement." Clicker training, therefore, is a positive-reinforcement-based system of training.
First widely used by dolphin trainers who needed a way to teach behavior without using physical force, operant conditioning (the scientific term for clicker training) can be and has been successfully employed with animals of all sizes and species, both domesticated and wild, young and old; all breeds of dogs and puppies, cats, birds, leopards, rats, rabbits, chinchillas, fish, and more.
Clicker trainers who learn the underlying principles have at their disposal a powerful set of tools that enable them to analyze behaviors, modify existing methods for individual animals, and create new methods where none previously existed. This flexibility allows the tools of clicker training to be re-invented in new forms that work in a range of situations, and for an infinite variety of animals.
The same principles have also been applied to training for athletes, dancers, skaters, and other people. Called "TAGteach," this form of training uses a click as a marker signal to teach precise physical motions quickly, accurately, and positively.

That's great. I had a bunny that could do about seven commands (he was only a pet) and nobody would belive me until they saw him. Good work.

I mostly use rabbit pellets as a training treat. My rabbits only get 1/4 cup of pellets per day and they really like them. My rabbits always have hay available to munch on. I also use small pieces of herbs, vegetables or fruit.

I first practice in a quiet enclosed area so if they hop off, they can't go far. I try to use really great treats to keep them motivated and I only train for a few minutes before I give them a break. After they get used to clicker training they will concentrate for longer periods of time. If they hop off I either wait until they return or I go do something else and try again later. Most rabbits stay still and quiet on hot days so they don't over heat. I try to train when it's cool.

To get a rabbit to concentrate, you train in a quiet somewhat boring place, you use fantastic treats and train for a short amount of time. Maybe do 5 clicks then stop for a bit. If your rabbit comes back for more training, do another 5 clicks than quit. Eventually your rabbit will be able to focus longer. Also break down the tricks into small easy steps so that your rabbit can be successful.

If you listen you can hear me making a clicking noise with my tongue as the rabbit does the desired behavior. Once the rabbit is trained, I can fade out the use of the clicker. Voices are confusing because the rabbits hear us blab all day. The clicker always means the same 3 things; I like what you were doing when I clicked, you will get a reward and your job is done until I give you another cue. I use pets as well as treats and several other rewards.

I use clicker training to teach the rabbits. Most of my rabbits will work for pets or affection it just takes more time to pet them than it does to eat a rabbit pellet. The rabbits tend to get mellow after petting so they tend to slow down on their responses. The white rabbit in this video is a feral. He learned to accept petting as one of his "tricks". The trick training was more a way to engage his mind and teach tolerance for humans, it also happens to be entertaining to me.

Healthy treats are important. I like to use rabbit pellets, small bits of parsley, shredded carrot, tiny pieces of apple or an oat groat (whole oat). Small treats, the size of a rabbit pellet work best. Rabbits shouldn't have more than a teaspoon or two of high carb food per day.

You can try using your tongue to make a clicking noise or a ball point pen. There are some clickers that make a softer sound called i-clicks. You can also muffle the sound by putting it in your pocket, or under your arm until your rabbit gets used to the sound.

You would be surprised at what a guinea pig can learn. My friend had one that could shake with both paws, circle right or left, walk backwards, give kisses, jump through a hoop and fetch bottle caps. My guinea pig gives high fives and is very interactive.

I think mine do because they used to escape on occasion and I would find them down on the parking strip jumping hurdles for fun. Also sometimes when Mattie would jump over the hurdle she would do a happy jump called a "binky" as she cleared the hurdle.

The giant rabbit is an angora. He is a cross between a French angora and a giant angora. He actually isn't as big as he looks on the video. He weighs slightly more than his brown and white bunny friend who looks a lot smaller.

I use mostly rabbit pellets. I think I'm using a piece of Kale for some of the tricks in this video. I also use things like mint leaves, rose petals, pieces of parsley or small bits of carrot or apple.

No, I've trained a 12 year old rabbit. The age doesn't matter so much as long as they are active and want something that you can give them as a reward during training.

are all your rabbits trainable? I could never get mine to come over and take a treat from my hand--she was so skittish and preferred to hide-- sometimes would attack my hand when I went into her cage with a scoop of food. Your rabbits seem really sociable. You're a great trainer!

All rabbits are trainable... but... first they have to learn to trust you compleatly and alot of people just casually own rabbits and don't spend the extra time to bond with them. Also the reason your bun attacts you in the cage is becouse it's become cage protective...Buns are very teritorial and if you don't make your hands in the cage = something great happens they will attack it. This also happens to buns when spend too many hours in an issolated cage. Check out House Rabbit Society.
