Yes fixing character traits can be a lifetime issue. The way to be successful is to work on one at a time and try to reduce the others. It works, but is a lifetimes work because there is always something to work on. (Usually subconscious) I made the mistake of trying to fix everything that came to my consciousness. For months life changed drastically, almost every second of the day. I couldn’t keep up. Our minds and bodies cannot cope with such drastic changes, but working on one at a time and building on that, making it a lifetimes work, it is possible to change. It works better if you surround yourself with those who study/live Torah. If not it is very difficult, but possible if you yourself surround yourself with Torah. This is something we all need to do not just those of us with character issues (which is usually down to what has been taught consciously and unconsciously) Help those actively trying to change as much as possible.

Poor rabbi, he forgot that he observer, the observed, and the act of observation is one and the self.

Wait, I thought that in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God. What are you talking about?!
