Currently own a 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT 1000 cc that I have had for 20 years. Once took me 120 miles on one cylinder at highway speed when one spark plug wire crapped out on a Sunday morning with no shops open. At almost 70 years old it has gotten too heavy to maneuver in and out of situations. Purchased a 2013 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone at more than 100 pounds less wet weight. Absolutely love it. Will stay with Moto Guzzi for the rest of my riding life. I have owned BMW, Laverda, Ducati, Moto Morini, Triumph, BSA, Zundapp, Indian, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Cagiva and loved them all for different reasons, but the fact that I can physically handle the weight of a bike that will cruise (illegally) at 85-90 mph for as long as I need, looks good, is reliable and affordable and unique, why shop anywhere else?- -Mike Battle

Your enthusiasm for the joy of the ride is a pleasure to hear. I'm on my second V7 as the first was stolen. Great for a 40+ minute mixed road commute each way, and weekend rides 2 up. Love it.

I wholeheartedly agree with your review. The V7 is an Italian icon with so much charisma. I rode my 2016 V7 Stornello from Santa Monica to Chicago and back on Route 66. The adventure was sheer joy. The MG handled mixed road surfaces (paved and dirt) flawlessly without any mechanical issues. Kudos to the talented folks at Mandello Del Lario.

@@hugoescudero8740 Greetings. As you well know, MG V7's transmission is buttery smooth. Most motorcycles have a noticeable click and a lurch going into first gear - not the Guzzi. You'll discover the neutral after few weeks of riding. A gentle tap of the shifter is all it takes to pop the gear into neutral. Once I practiced finding the neutral in the garage, it was much easier to find it while riding. Best of luck.

I own a 2016 Motto Guzzi V7 II Stone. Love the bike. Light enough to shoot around in the city and has enough weight to cruise the interstate without feeling like you are going to be blown off the road. It also garners positive excessive curiosity wherever I go. Beautiful bike with a retro look. Yes, it could do with another 10-20 horsepower, but hey, it does what it does without regret. Though I have not ridden the Guzzi V9 Roamer, I could see myself owning one if they would add a seperate tachometer ( I like the retro look it would convey). But for now I will stay loyal to my Goose V7 II Stone. Does everything I want for the time being with style. It even, IMO, does it with a "Cool" factor attached, haha. And one final note, since it is built in Italy by Italians (not contracted out to India or China) the engineering and build quality is unsurpassed in my opinion. I was toying around with the idea of getting a vintage 1970 Triumph Bonneville 650. But the more I ride my Goose V7 II Stone the less likely that will happen. At least any time soon. ;-)

Im actually looking at getting the v7 ii and have wanted one for quite some time however i do every now and then get drawn into the idea of buying a roamer. betting for touring and still small enough day to day riding. also would be real nice having the extra power and i've seen a few that really are not that much more than the v7. One at the moment going for $11,590 AUD with 1700 km on it. Thats pretty effing tempting.

my dad had one of these for his commute for a year and here are some of the things he found. the seat is uncomfortable for longer distances, and the stock rear suspension is awful, reliability was not good, however it was worth it while it rode as he said it was one of the most charismatic bikes he'd ever owned and when you rode it you felt like you were riding a real bike, not a machine that is doing everything for you. Also it makes awesome pops when decelerating, I found that out when riding 1 up :)

The shaft drive ended up leaking oil from the seals, the engine oil cap burst out mid ride (however this may have been due to the garages fault) and the headset was knocking and messed up after only 7000 miles.

Live in Manitoba, Canada. Right above North Dakota. Short riding season because of the looong winters. I bought a 2009 V7 Classic - the pearl white. The guy had the fairing installed and side bags. Also had some after-market bar end mirrors that look much better. My only wish is that she had a few more horses. But it's a very sharp looking bike. And I really like having a bike that no one else in the area has. Lots of Harleys around here...and even some new Triumphs....but very FEW MGs. I love it.

@@hugoescudero8740 Finding neutral once you've stopped can be an issue sometimes. It's annoying at 1st, but you learn to deal with it. I will usually gear down normally when I'm coming for a stop, BUT I will gear down into neutral. It hits neutral very easily when moving. When stopped.....it's either hit or miss. You get used to it over time. Now....it's njot an issue to me because I know the bike's idiosyncrasies and I know how to deal with it. It's like having a girlfriend who is hot as hell but can be a bit of a pain once in a while. You learn to deal with it and work with it. It just takes a small bit of time and practice and the annoying little neutral situation doesn't really seem like a big deal anymore.

Always love your reviews. Thinking of getting the new 2021 V7 with all LED and 100cc bigger. For me, the shaft drive is the sales pitch. I wish other companies would offer mid-size displacement bikes with shaft drive but that's where the shaft lag is - you have to have a 90 degree pivot joint on traditional V-twins and inline 2 and 4 cylinder motors. That's why the Guzzi has very low drive lag. Transverse mounting makes for a straight drive shaft. Same as a BMW boxer. If that's the stock exhaust it has a very nice sound when accelerating. Slip-ons would be awesome.

I bought a 2010 V 7 Classic six months ago. Haven't had a bike for 40 years, so I tend to like the classic look and feel. This bike is right up my street. Adequate power, but not scary, corners good, although it's not a bike you want to ride too far, a hundred miles is about it as the seat is hard and the cafe racer posture tiring. It looks stunning, as it is a modern copy of the 1985 edition and was produced under the April ownership, which had good effect on the mechanics. A great first bike, or one for the return to the fold.

I have a 2014 V7 Special, and I share the same sentiments as you. I've been slowly going down in sportiness and HP since 2004: CBR600F4i, Suzuki Gladius SFV650 in '09, and now to the Moto Guzzi. I've found that I can actually push this bike to the point where I can hear the tires chirp under braking (on a closed course), and that's saying a lot considering it has no racy pretensions at all. That's something I can't say about the other two bikes I have had when I take them to the track. You wouldn't think the bike had only 50 hp by how it moves in traffic and in the back roads, the torque is definitely key here. The only thing I wish was better was the transmission--no positive snick into 1st, and I've had instances where the shift got stuck between gears and I could hear a grind before catching it and clutching in and pushing harder on the shift peg.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 8 жыл бұрын
FuriousFilipino I felt that issue with the gearing not being positive in first might be of an issue since you don't get that typical *clunk* and then a shifter that stays put like on most other bikes. That would be the only improvement I would want.

@@hugoescudero8740 I own a 2016 V7II Stornello, just purchased used a few months ago. My first ride I couldn't find neutral as hard as I tried. My hand started being very fatigued… So I started fiddling, but not that much, with the clutch cable tension, and as soon as it was pulled in just a bit more, Neutral showed up, and it's been very easy and soft to find ever since. I was going by intuition, so I am not sure what I did, but it's clockwork now. Everything is about adjustment and fine tuning. It's not the bike's fault, it's the rider that should know how to adjust controls to ensure the best performance. P.S.: Maybe it was easier to do because of the aftermarket billet clutch lever, which has a three positions lever on top, corresponding at different tensions on the cable. But you have to find the right one for your bike, as every clutch becomes worn at different levels, and the cable "play" comes into… yes play!

The V7III feels a bit more punchy starting in the mid range to higher rev. The V7II was low to mid range. The bike feels more alive due to the fact you're revving out much like the Cb750 of yesteryear. The V7II feels much like a Sportster from Harley where it'll take off on the line and accelerate well in the lower gears but runs out of breath. So I actually like the way the V7III is over the II. Other than that both bikes handle fairly similar and are each wonderful in their own rights, but to me the III has the edge.

I have a short inseam...around 27" max. Can the seat be narrowed at the front by a specialist or does the body and frame of the bike keep you from getting the "waist" of the bike more narrow? Thanks, I'm looking for a used '16-'17.

The body work and frame are pretty much right there under the nose of the seat. I am not sure if it would be possible to shave the seat down and it gets you to where it is needed. It maybe easier to have the bike lowered a little to help.

hey, thanks for the review. Saw you also had recently tried the HD roadster. Would you care to taka a moment to compare the two? which one you think would be a beter bike to ride everyday and why? thanks,

I love them both. If you want the mild mannered and just a comfortable cruiser for point a to be around town then the Guzzi. But if you want to get there fast and beat a some things off the line from light to light the Roadster. Both are awesome in their own right. The Guzzi's smaller 750 is a fun little engine but does not have the grunt of the 1200 Roadster. The Guzzi is also a bit more fun in the turns and will get better fuel mileage in the end as well. So depends on how you ride. Both are great for sure.

oh snap! i caught you online I guess - thanks for the fast reply. well perhaps I should mention earlier - my daily ride is Ducati 748 so I have my thrils on that, and now am looking for something a bit less engaging and relaxing in ride (748 will stay don't worry ;) ) Had my mind set on HD for a while. I tried few HDs and found the ride experience relaxing and interesting enough but hard to get used to some bits like the front breakes on them (apart form Vrod that is, and HD sales guy tells me the ones on the roadster are much better as well) Recently found out about V7 Racer that looks stunning and is really a LOT cheaper then the Roadster (at least where I live). unfortunately didn't find yet a one I can test nearby -hence the question. good to hear you like how it corners (I think switch to HD form 748 is a big step - guzzi seems a more natural step then :) ) - probalby my biggest concern is the power of the V7? specs show 5.9s to 100km/h that's quite a gap but looking an the video it seems in normal comuting you didn't felt it lacking in the area really, right?
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 8 жыл бұрын
+vip3rpl No I really did not feel it lacking as an everyday machine at all. It has power between the 883 Harley and the 1200. It did just fine getting onto the highway here and is able to out run the traffic at lights as well. It is a pleasant machine. The Roadster does indeed have a better front braking package than the other Sportsters I can vouche for that. But they don't match the Night Rod (daily rider now and I had Sportsters for a while before the Night Rod is used daily). If you do want a bit more power and still want to go Guzzi try the V9 series with the 850.

thanks - I like V7 looks better then V9, I'll look for one to test drive fingers crossed :) on a side note - congrats on the Night Rod - I was amazed with vrod - wasn't expecting it to be so good in everything really. If I were to keep just one bike probably that would also be it (trouble is I like diversity and can't get over the price when I can easly have two V7s for the money ;) ) - will see I might end up with one anyway in the end ;) again - thanks for the review&replies. ride safe, cheers.

+vip3rpl Great review, thumbs up from Germany! I'm thinking of getting a V7 (HD 48 is in the bowl too) and all I am worried about is that it might be somewhat short on power. But then your review seems quite encouraging... Did you find it easy to pull away at highway speeds (60 ish)? It doesn't look too bad at all. I am going to ride in the city and on country roads most of the time, but I want to be able to overtake quickly at highway speeds as well. Not expecting anything crazy, but you know, you don't want to find yourself struggling to overtake some lame people carriers lingering around in the countryside.

Is the V7 seat height comfortable for the taller rider, say 6'2"?
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog Жыл бұрын
Maybe not as long as a 4 hour straight ride, but for a couple of hours there's enough room to shift and move and shake out and be comfortable for a couple of hours.

Are leathers not available in the USA? The rider is a fool.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 11 ай бұрын
The rider is not a fool, the rider has the right to make choices. Though the rider no longer rides arms bare and always wears some sort of protective garment, in the end even full leathers are not going to win against a semi rolling all 18 wheels over them. If you don't agree with a choice, fine, but do not call one with freedom a fool if they freely made the decision knowing what consequences exist.

Another this was an older video but if you ever get the chance to ride one again, keep it between 4 and 5k rpms and you will fall in love again. These bikes feel at first like you will be winding it up a little too much, but at as my mechanic says (yes I am unable to work on my own bike), these bikes like to be strangled!!
