Never go close to wild animal, especially when you see it disoriented, foaming, its rabies. But i guess curiosity is stronger than alert.
@srchnfrcj3 жыл бұрын
The virus doesn't always manifest itself that way. A wild nocturnal mammal that is out during the day & unusually friendly/tame or shows no fear of you is a serious threat of carrying the virus. Those are some of the first signs. Rabies can take a paralytic form where the animal displays disorientation, lethargy, & compromised motor skills that eventually graduate to stupor, paralysis, and ultimately death.

Leon Tarmann I’m sure no one has accused the person who shot this video of having much brains. Contracting rabies is a 90% death sentence, IF you don’t get vaccinated in time. Once symptoms of rabies show in a human or animal, it’s almost ALWAYS game over. To my knowledge, I think there are about 3 or 4 people who have survived rabies. However, those survivors are not the same after full recovery. I watched a couple documentaries on KZbin about people contracting rabies and surviving. It’s interesting, but eerie.

this skunk definitely has rabies, there are two kinds mammals can contract, Parralysis rabies and aggressive rabies, in Parralysis you get things such as confusion, a drunken looking walk, sometimes they still foam at the mouth sometimes they dont, fever, swatting at things that aren't there, seizures, chewing on their own body and Parralysis and the inability to walk or sometimes even move, in aggressive rabies you have of course very high aggression, often they will try to bite anything moving and this is the type where u would imagine a dog foaming at the mouth chasing you like cujo, In both Parralysis rabies and aggressive rabies the infected animal will refuse water and is often scared of water, this is called hydrophobia and occurs Because the virus spreads to the salivary glands and effects the throat and the ability to swallow, so any water or liquid that is drank will be forced back up, the animal also drools often Because of it's inability to swallow it's saliva which is another reason for the foaming at the mouth Symptom, sometimes depending on what stage it's in, u won't even know an animal has rabies, the only signs could be random Parralysis and odd behavior, so for the people who say this animal doesn't have rabies, that is why there are still about 50,000 rabies deaths in humans every year because people doubt an animal has rabies when they don't know enough about rabies to say so, if you see a rabid animal CALL ANIMAL CONTROL, killing it isn't the best option and u should only do so if u are I'm danger or your pets are in danger, you should not attempt to handle a animal with rabies CALL ANIMAL CONTROL, they will remove the animal and put it down

I was just witness to what I believe was a rabid or severely injured skunk. I watched it from 30 feet, whistled, made noises louder until finally it turned from what it was doing...wrestling with what I thought maybe a toad it had found and began to move back towards the woods, but staggering, falling sideways and not like a typical one that will scurry off with a cute waddle. I grabbed my .22 and dispatched it only 15 more feet away where it had grabbed a piece of corn on the cob my dad puts out for raccoons and wildlife....none of us hunt, so it wasn't a bait pile or anything like that. I shot it first round successfully and followed up with 3 more to make sure. I called 911 to find out if they wanted to put me thru to any agency for testing the animal. They gave me DEC phone number and he told me since no human or animal made contact to just put it in the trash can or bury it about 3 feet deep. I double bagged my hand and grabbed it by it's hair and in another bag it went and then into a cardboard box. I just feel bad though for killing something trying to make it and survive. I also poured some bleach on the blood that was left behind as the DEC officer suggested as the chipmunks and squirrels feed right where this happened. I was glad to read your post where the drunken walking was mentioned....this puts my mind to ease knowing I did the right thing.

!! aggression rabies causes the EXACT same symptoms as the other kind, just takes a while to set in. They become too confused and weak to be aggressive at some point. So don't assume an animal has paralytic rabies and won't suddenly become aggressive. At a glance, it's damn near impossible to tell which type of rabies it is so don't take the chances.

Since we are talking about wild animals that usually show up in our backyards, for those in chat who don't know, just wanted to say that Opossums do NOT carry rabies. Their blood is too cool and it is EXTREMELY rare for them to get rabies. So never kill or mistreat a Opossum. Just leave them alone. They are more afraid of you, then you are of them. If you see a mom hit by a car, please check her stomach pouch, because she may have babies that can still be saved. You can then contact an opposum rescuer near you and they will take in the babies to rehab and then set free. Thank you 😊💓

It’s true that opossums are rarely carriers of rabies, but like all mammals they can get rabies. The most common carrier everywhere is bats. Beyond that, depending on what part of the country you are in, it occurs mostly in foxes, raccoons and skunks. Here in the western Sierra, I’ve seen a couple rabid skunks and a rabid fox. Beyond all that, be nice to animals, all animals. Opossums can be kinda freaky and scary but they’re pretty great.

We had a rabbid skunk in our yard last summer. It would get up, wobble around, come toward you down the driveway, rub it's mouth on the ground and get up, wobble, flop back down, and do that over and over. I was going to shoot it but my 6" barreled .22cal was going to be louder than the 21" .22cal that I've got now. Wasn't sure what the noise would have started. So it got under the back fence and someone in the adjacent cul du sac shot it himself.

A reminder for those who are saying to shoot it: You shouldn't shoot a rabid animal, because: 1. Once the rabies virus reaches the brain, it multiplies rapidly and quickly travels via nerves to other parts of the body. In the late stages of rabies, the body is filled with virus. If the animal's insides go about, a person or animal can be infected just as easily as they can be infected by the saliva, since the other body parts are also infected. 2. If you shoot it in the head, this may make it harder for the animal's brain to be tested for rabies. If you see a rabid or suspected rabid animal, call animal control right away. They will euthanize it.
@leontarmann34498 жыл бұрын
hllc1 rabid animals usually get shot regardless. the virus is not present in blood. either you call the police and they shoot it or on more rural areas you can call the local hunter and he kills it
@ibuprofenPill8 жыл бұрын
Whatever, I always shoot rabid animals if I see them. The body parts will only be spread everywhere if you you use a gun that's way too powerful. A .22 would take care of this skunk quickly without any mess. You don't need the brain to test for rabies, blood or saliva will work too. I saw a rabid fox on my neighbor's property once and shot it, after which they thanked me when I let them know.

I didn't see the coating on the eyes. I didn't see evidence of paralysis. (S)he was moving the way skunks do. Skunks waddle just as this one does. Nursing mother skunks forage in the day, so that is not a sign of rabies. Skunks are curious and this ones is showing curiosity. The only time it seemed to be prepared to spray was when it raised it's tail when the cameraman was following (as if to chase) when (s)he was walking away. The skunk also doesn't appear unkempt. Fur looks decently groomed. The closeup of the face looks as though this is a juvenile which would explain why they might be out it uncommon hours. I suspect skunk-o-phobia is good for business. I don't buy that this skunk has rabies.

It sucks when it happens to something like a skunk because skunks are usually pretty sweet natured, unless you're the sort of an idiot who likes harassing wild animals. You did a good job on this video . People really don’t understand how dangerous rabies really is. Kids may see a wild animal in the day and it seems friendly . Well that is where it can go horrible. Kids need to be taught about rabies and rabid animals . It is scary and people don’t know about it ! I’m 30 and just learned in the last week about how terrifying rabies is ! For all people if you get bit immediately go to the hospital!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you don’t and you have symptoms your done for

Well they are usually out this time of day, a skunks do wable. Eyes coating over mean nothing at all. Is it rabies? Well... better safe than sorry. But I don't see drool nor can they eat bc if rabied they can't swallow hence the drool. I'd definitely quarantine it. But I'm not totally convenienced it rabid.

Jim Incredible I’ve studied animals and animal behavior for a very long time. Unless a dog or bear or larger animal disturbed it, a skunk will not come out when the suns out. It also appears to be wobbling and confused like it’s drunk. Another sign of a rabid animal. It isn’t showing any normal behaviors

This skunk is rabid. The fools saying it is a "pet" are idiotic. That way if thinking has killed thousands of people. Rabies is a gruesome death sentence. Fact is Skunks are nocturnal, they hate sunlight and people. i had a rabid skunk in my yard yesterday. Dispatched it with a clean head shot (22). I Triple bagged it and disposed without touching. I love animals my 2 adopted shelter cats are watching me type this.

You're correct, but a clean head shot is not the way to go. Any damage to the head will make it harder for animal control to test for rabies.

Serithe I'm not sure what is accomplished by testing a dead animal for rabies anyhow. Lol "Oh Shit it had rabies, but it's dead so who cares?"
@windtalker41916 жыл бұрын
morningstar3188 actually testing dead animals is useful for discovering new dangerous strains and detecting if a epidemic is occurring or spreading by reports made.
